MRS. ANNA V. (QUIRK) AHERN DIED SUNDAY

   Mrs. Anna V. (Quirk) Ahern, widow of Edward J. Ahern, and a life long resident, of this city, died Sunday morning, at her home, 4 Cross St., this city, following a long period of declining health.
   Mrs. Ahern was born in Malden, Mass., but had lived the greater part of her life in this city, where she was widely known and highly regarded. Her hosts of friends, sadly mourn her passing.
   She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the United Spanish War Veterans and a devout worshipper at the Immaculate Conception Church, where she was affiliated with the church sodality.
   She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John T. Lennon (Mae G. Ahern) and Miss Anastasia Ahern, and two sons, John J. and David H. Ahern, all of this city, together with one brother, Thomas Quirk of Woburn and two grandchildren.

NO SCHOOL SIGNAL IS SOUNDED

   The heavy rains of today caused the school signal for all sessions of school to be sounded today. The morning session was dispensed with including the High School when 22 was sounded at 7.30 a.m. Again at 12.30 p.m. the alarm was sounded dispensing with the afternoon session.

FALSE ALARM FROM BOX 13

   A false alarm was sounded at box 13 at 9:20 o'clock last night. The alarm brought the department to the corner of Warren avenue and Sturgis street. Box 13 has been the source of several false alarms. Residents in that neighborhood have asked that a street light be installed near the fire box.
DISABLED VETS NAME DELEGATES TO CONVENTION

   At a regular meeting of John T. Flaherty Chapter No. 21 Disabled American Veterans held Wednesday evening, June 5th, the following delegates were elected to go to the State Convention to be held in Somerville, Mass., on June 14, 15, 16.
   Delegates - Thomas Walsh, John Anderson, Maurice Carpenter.
   Alternates - Thomas McGourty, John Callahan, John McCanley.

DANCE RECITAL THIS EVENING AT HIGH SCHOOL

   The Cummings-Edwards School of Dancing will present its seventh annual recital this evening in the Woburn High School Auditorium. An interesting program will be presented, with many unusual numbers.
   The program will open with a chorus “Hello Folks” in which 50 pupils will appear in pretty costumes. This number will be followed by exhibitions of various dances including acrobatic, tapping, minuet, buck and wing, toe, military taps, stunts, waltz, clog, Highland Fling, soft shoe, and ad agio. Many amusing sketches with popular song hits make up the remainder of this program which promises to be a most enjoyable one.

ABERJONA TRUNK SEWER STILL TROUBLESOME

   The Aberjona sewer trouble still continues. The sewer department employees worked all day yesterday on the sewer using plungers and gradually cleared the line. However, the sewer flowage fills up the main in short order, and continual attention is necessary unless some definite steps are taken to remedy the situation.

MRS. ANNA V. (QUIRK) AHERN LAID AT REST

   The funeral of Mrs. Anna V. (Quirk) Ahern, widow of Edward J. Ahern, and a resident, of this city, the greater part of her life, was held this morning, from her late home, 4 Cross Street, Woburn at 8:15 a.m. and a High Mass of Requiem was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, Winchester, at nine o'clock. The services were largely attended, evidencing the esteem in which she was held in the community, and interment followed at Calvary cemetery, East Woburn.
   The deceased was born in Malden, Mass., but had lived in Woburn practically all her life. Following a long illness she passed away at her home, on last Sunday morning.
   She was a member of the Sodality of the Immaculate Conception Church, where she was a devout worshipper, and was also a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the United Spanish War Veterans, here.
   She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John T. Lennon (Mae G. Ahern) and Miss Anastasia Ahern, and two sons, John J. and David H. Ahern, all of this city, also by one brother, Thomas Quirk of Woburn and two grandchildren.
   A resolve for a study and revision of the laws relating to public welfare and soldiers' benefits received strong backing yesterday at a hearing before the joint rules committee. Passage of the resolve, said Frank W. Goodhue, director of the division of aid and relief of the department of public welfare, would simplify and modernize the local relief laws.

   On motion of Senator Joseph A. Langone, Jr. of the North End, the Senate adopted an order for a committee of seven senators to represent the Senate at the June 17 celebration in Charlestown. Langone had already invited Senator Huey Long of Louisiana to attend the exercises. Those who were named to the committee were Senators Langone, Donovan, White, Carroll, Burke, Madden and Donahoe.
