| Mrs. Josephine E. Carroll Doherty, widow of the late Anthony A. Doherty, passed away at her late home, 85 Pleasant Street, Saturday night after a few weeks illness. Mrs. Doherty was born in Woburn and educated in the Woburn public schools. She married Anthony A. Doherty, who was one of Woburn's most prominent citizens. For many years, the family lived at the Central House, Woburn's famous hostelry which was owned by Mr. Doherty.
Mrs. Doherty had a wide circle of friends who will mourn her loss. She had a pleasant disposition and was neighborly to all who came in contact with her. Many prominent people who visited Woburn can remember [her] as the congenial hostess at the Central House, which was then the most active hotel for many miles around. In her younger days, she was unusually active in all the church and civic movements. Mrs. Doherty is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hanson Foster, Mrs. Edward D. Welch, an executive of William Filene & Sons, and Margaret Doherty, all of Woburn, and three sons, Charles J., Ex Ald. Edward A. Doherty and Police Officer Joseph Doherty and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Bradley of Wakefield and Mary Carroll of California. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning from the late home of the deceased at 8:30 a.m. High Mass of Requiem will be celebrated at St. Charles Church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Calvary cemetery. |

| Mrs. Josephine E. Doherty, who passed away at her home, 85 Pleasant Street, last Saturday evening, was laid at rest at Calvary cemetery, this morning. High Mass of Requiem was celebrated at 9:30 o'clock at St. Charles' Church by Rev. George P. McColgan, who also recited the committal prayers at the grave. The pall bearers were Mayor Edward W. Kenney, Harry and Walter Bradley of Wakefield, William Lafferty of Medford, three nephews, John F. McGann of the Fire Department and Patrick McCarron of Medford, formerly of this city.
Mrs. Doherty, the widow of the late Anthony A. Doherty, is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hanson Foster, Mrs. Edward D. Welch and Margaret Doherty, three sons, Charles J., Ex Aid., Edward A. and Joseph Doherty, local police officer, and two sisters, Mrs. Ann Bradley of Wakefield and Mary Carroll of California. |
