PGSMa Spring Meeting: Using the Internet to Find Useful Addresses and Collections in Poland, Jones Library, lower level meeting room, 14 Amity Street, Amherst, MA

Our speaker will be Prof. Jakub Tyszkiewicz, a professor of history at the University of Wrocław and a visiting professor at UMass Amherst. We all know that there is a wealth of data and links on web sites in Poland, although we have been frequently frustrated trying to obtain results. Professor Tyszkiewicz will demonstrate using the internet to find useful genealogical Information at Polish websites. So bring your questions, problems and documents to this meeting to have them resolved by Professor Tyszkiewicz.

A short business meeting will precede the presentation. Members will be available to answer questions and give advice on their own research. The public is welcome to attend at no charge. Bring a friend! View the holdings of the society.    Metered parking is available on Amity Street.

April 18-21, 2008 in Salt Lake City. United Polish Genealogical Societies Seminar. We are expecting 75-100 researchers to meet in Salt Lake City, Utah  for this exciting conference.  There will be a great line up of traditional research sessions and new technologies. Speakers include Tomasz Nitsch from Poland, and a Skype interview with noted author Fred Hoffman. PGSMa Summer Meeting  Internet Genealogy at Greenfield Community College Downtown Center, Main Street, Greenfield, MA..

PGSM member Sara Campbell will lead a hands-on session with over 20 computers available to explore your family research on the internet.  Topics to be covered include using popular internet resources at Familly Search (LDS), Rootsweb (host of our society web site), Ancestry (subscription service), and Ellis Island to research ancestors in the US and Eastern Europe.  Bring your questions and brick walls. Be prepared to share your experiences.  Preference will be given to members if attendance exceeds the computers available.

A brief business meeting will precede the presentation.

Greenfield Community College Downtown Center is located at 270 Main Street, Greenfield: take
Interstate 91 to Exit 26. Go up hill past Sweeney Ford on right (less than 1 mile). Look for left turn on to Chapman Street (Cafe Koko and The Country Jeweler on either side of corner). Turn left on to Chapman and drive about 1 block and turn right into public parking lot behind Wilson's Dept. Store. GCC Downtown Center rear entrance is on the same side of Main Street opposite Wilson's. Computer lab is in the basement level..

Come to a celebration of Polish, Ukranian, Lithuanian and other Eastern European cultures.  Annual festival features ethnic foods, a variety of ethnic music, dancers, speakers, local and regional vendors of crafts from or about the historical Polish region.  PGSMA will be on hand to answer questions about family history, and our collection of books and maps will be available for browsing.  

Admission charge $5 at the door
