June Meeting
June 9, 2007
Topic: Boston States
Speaker: Sharon Sergeant
1:30 p.m. John Curtis Free Library, Rt. 139, 534 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA (781) 826-2927
If you have ancestors who originated from the Eastern Maritime Provinces of Canada, you will not want to skip this meeting. From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, thousands of Canadian Maritimers left the Maritime Provinces and went to the “Boston States” looking for work. “Boston States” was the term used by those in the Maritime Provinces when referring to their, or a family members, destination in New England. It is estimated that nearly 4 million people descend from this group. Learn what resources are available and how best to access the records.
Sharon Sergeant has served as the Director of Programs for the Massachusetts Genealogical Council for 6 years. She founded the Boston States Migrations Fairs and the website www.bostonstates.rootsweb.com. She has also served on committees for GENTECH, the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), Professional Management Conference (PMC), the Greater Boston Chapter of APG and Historic Waltham Inc. Sharon also provides teleconference education programs, products and services at www.ancestralmanor.com.
