June Meeting

June 9, 2007

Topic: Boston States

Speaker: Sharon Sergeant

1:30 p.m. John Curtis Free Library, Rt. 139, 534 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA (781) 826-2927

If you have ancestors who originated from the Eastern Maritime Provinces of Canada, you will not want to skip this meeting. From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, thousands of Canadian Maritimers left the Maritime Provinces and went to the “Boston States” looking for work. “Boston States” was the term used by those in the Maritime Provinces when referring to their, or a family members, destination in New England. It is estimated that nearly 4 million people descend from this group. Learn what resources are available and how best to access the records.

Sharon Sergeant has served as the Director of Programs for the Massachusetts Genealogical Council for 6 years.
