Next Meeting: Wednesday, October 7, 2015

The Western Massachusetts Genealogical Society will hold their next meeting from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Agawam Senior Center, 954 Main Street, Agawam, Massachusetts.

We'll be visiting with our "old friend" Russ Worthington. Russ is Dear Myrtle's cousin who assisted us in our Google+ Hangouts with Dear Myrtle and with Judy Russell. Aside from being a leading expert in the complexities of Google Hangouts, Russ is quite accomplished in many fields including genealogy, and has been called on for assistance with Find-A Grave and Family Tree Maker/Ancestry.com. He'll be giving us an in depth understanding in the use of City Directories which should be a vital part of everyone's search strategies. He'll be coming to us from his home in New Jersey via a Google Hangout. Since we, ourselves, have become fairly adept at the technology, we expect the entire evening to go without a hitch.

Upcoming dates for genealogy in the Agawam Senior Center Computer Lab:

WMGS is proud to introduce AncestryLibrary for our member's use! New this year we will be offering AncestryLibrary Edition at our research clinics. This also includes both Newspapers.com and Fold3.com. This is only available during our clinics so be sure to mark them on your calendar. We have added more days to the clinics to accommodate more people.

Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.
Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.

Join Fran Malone, President of WMGS, and Dave Robison, Vice President of WMGS and owner of Old Bones Genealogy of New England and Bruce Cortis for "Genealogy Research Clinics." Spend some time with genealogy researchers with years of experience using the internet to help get the answers you're looking for. Learn time saving research strategies using Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, Fold3.com, HeritageQuest.com, Newspapers.com, Google and SteveMorse.org among other sites.

Sessions are held on the third and fourth Thursdays of the month in the computer room of the Agawam Senior Center. Clinics are free for WMGS members. There is a $10 fee per session for non-members. (Annual WMGS membership is $25.)

Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.
Monday, October 5, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.

Can't make it to the Thursday night research clinics? We are exploring additional days during the week. Join WMGS members Susan Leverson and Katy Krause as they lead a hands-on genealogy session in the computer lab. They will expand on the WMGS monthly meeting by reviewing applicable websites and offering genealogy tips and strategies. Attendees will also have time to use the computer for their own research, including use of the AncestryLibrary Edition, and Susan and Katy will be available to provide assistance. Sessions are free for WMGS members. There is a $10 fee per session for non-members. (Annual WMGS membership is $25.)
