Message:Am trying to find the exact birthplace of my gt gt grandfather Harrison Colvin of Scioto Co., Ohio, he did live in Kentucky with his parents, believe the county was Greenup. His wife was Sarah Jane Bingham. She was born in Kentucky, am unsure of the county of which her parents lived. have heard many versions, I would like to find the name of her parents as well as find my grandfather Harrison Colvin's. Their daughter Clara Clovin married James Thomas Henson in Phelps County Missouri. Clara was born 1864 in Ohio. It states on her death certificate that she was married twice, I can find no other record of her other marriage. Perhaps she was married before in Ohio. I do not for certain. My grandfather Harrison Colvin's mother was Lydia Antis. My grandfather Harrison was also in the Civil War, I have those records. Would appreciate help on the Colvin families of Kentucky, and the Bingham families as well. Thanks --------------------------------------------------

Message:My wife is descended from Charmer Burdette (CB) COLVIN (8 Nov 1851 - 5 Dec 1923)
and Mahala (Mahalia?) Ann Shelton (6 Jun 1857 - 12 Dec 1918). CB and his bride met and married
somewhere in Tennessee, though CB had moved to Tennessee when he was 12 from somewhere
in Mississippi, where his father had been an overseer on a plantation. They had 10 children:
Ezra, McGarvey Holmes, Gentry Eddie, Sarah Ellen, Amma, Alta, Emma, Ira, Lillie May,
and Thmoas Franklin. The family moved from Tennessee (where McGarvey was born on 5 Dec 1877)
to Texas (where Thomas Franklin was born on 21 Dec 1879) to Dexter Missouri - where the rest
of the hids were born. CB COLVIN was buried in Maple Park Cemetary, Aurora, MO.
I know that Mahala' father was Thomas Shelton, born in Newberry TN. I also know Mahala
was one of nine kids. Her mother died and Thomas Shelton remarried and had 6 more kids.

Any help that you can give to find ancestors of this family would be most appreciated.

I couldn't help but notice the mention of Colvins from some of these sources having lived in Chester. My friend is a black American. Her grandfather Elijah Colvin lived in Chester and married Elizabeth Pratt. Her great grandfather, Thomas Colvin apparently married a Maggie Pratt. I would very much appreciate hearing from family members familiar with the Chester South Carolina family and any leads on getting more information for my friend. Likewise I would be willing to share anything that I discover in my future research on this branch of the family name. Thanks, --------------------------------------------------

Message:My grandmother's grandmother was Amanda Colvin (slave) married (?) to a William or John Colvin (pretty sure Irish slave owner) maybe of St. Louis, but seems like family was mostly from the Louisville, Kentucky area where she was born, my father was born and so was his father, William D. Evans II. Her mother was Flossie Colvin daughter of William/John and Flossie Colvin. Do not know if the Colvins had any other children. My grandmother is 95 and the only living person from that era. Flossie married John Wynlock (?) Holt and had four children: Flossie Laura Holt, Sterling Wynlock (?) Holt, Sterling Holt, and my grandmother, Julia M. Holt born maybe 1902, 1903 or 1904, in Louisville, Kentucky. Any information or assistance where to look would be much appreciated as many documents and pictures were lost to floods in the early 1900s and after my father was born in 1921, also in Louisville, Kentucky. I have also heard that the Breckenridge family, Confederate Colonel or General also has some play in our family history. St. Louis has also been mentioned but seems like all moved back to the Louisville, Kentucky area. Thank you so much for any information.

Who were her PARENTS? Names & birth/death dates of her SIBLINGS? Her Date & Place of Death, & Place of Burial? Other Marriages? Although Jennie is not my grandmother,I would like to be able to enter info on her because she appears in my family tree as the first wife of my grandfather; She & my grandfather had a son Alden who would be my dad's half-brother. My dad and I are descended from Leander French's 2nd wife Nettie Belle Tufts/Rollins/French. So far, I've only been able to ascertain that Jennie Colvin was married to my grandfather Leander Hartwell FRENCH in Farmington, NH in 1875; They had one child, ALDEN P. FRENCH. Jennie & Leander divorced in Feb. 1899;(My grandfather then married my grandmother Nettie Belle Tufts/ Rollins in Sept. 1900) This is not much to go on, but I'm hoping that SOMEONE doing COLVIN research will recognize SOMETHING here and be able to help me fill in my blanks on Jennie Colvin!! I realize that I probably lack sufficient data to be able to properly identify her and match her up with someone else's research!..BUT I'm posting this just in case there's a chance that someone can help. JENNIE COLVIN, the 1st wife of LEANDER FRENCH Married in Farmington, NH on Nov. 17, 1875 Jennie and Leander DIVORCED in Feb. 1899 Jennie Colvin and Leander French had a CHILD: ALDEN P. FRENCH b. Aug. 1878 in Milton or Farmington, NH Alden married Laurentinna RUNNELS in 1899 ALDEN P. French & Laurentinna RUNNELS had 5 children (most died very young) i. Child French b. 1899 d. 1900 ii. Child French born and died 1900 iii. WILFORD A. FRENCH (m. HARRIET ALLARD) b. June 11, 1903 in Farmington, NH d. September 1984 in Natick,MA m. HARRIET ALLARD Jan 24, 1928 iv. Ardena E. French b. bef 1907 d. __? v. Alden C. French born & died 1908 (Note: The first, second, and fifth children of Alden & Laurentinna died so very young; I have no info on the fourth child=Ardena; The third child= Wilford however lived to the good old age of 81 yrs. old. Were there any children born to Wilford A. French & Harriet Allard? ____) Since I've hit such a stumbling block here, I've also had the thought that it may possibily be that my Jennie was not originally a Colvin, but perhaps a Jennie M.______ who may have first married a Colvin prior to marrying my grandfather French?? Many thanks in advance to anyone who can Please let me know if there's anything here that's a possible match-up with someone's Colvin family tree.

I believe Andrew senior was from a really large family possibly from Donegal?? if there is anyone out there that can shed some light on my Colvin family it would be greatly appreciated. I have details down from Richard Colvin and Andrew Colvin Junr died in the war so any information on Mary (who married a Glendenning/Glendinning) or Henry John Colvin (known as Harry) would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you & happy hunting!

Message:Looking for information on my gg-grandmother Thirsey (Thersa, Thurza, Thirza) Colvin who made the march from the GA, Carolinas or Tennessee area during the relocation of the Cherokee Indians to I.T. (Indian Territory) and may have actually walked the "Trail of Tears" in 1838-39. Oral history of which I have heard for approximately 50 years states that she did. She was married to two Cherokee men: Charles Lafayette Tsu-We-Qua-Na Foreman Sr. and Samuel "Sommy" Still. My g-grandfather, Thomas Still was one of those children I have always wondered about Thirsey and have wanted to know more about her. Her burial place and her children are know to me but there is much more to know about her. Can you help me? It is believed that Thirsey was born about 1815-1817 and perhaps in Blounts', Perry, Tennessee and I have also heard in the state of Virginia. She died in 1866 and is buried in Oklahoma and if she is deserving of a grave marker certifying that she made the march on the "Trail of Tears", it would be my absolute pleasure to see that it is done. Can you help me at all? Thirsey had a total of 11 chilren (4 by Charles Foreman and 7 by Samuel Still)and other decendents too numerous to mention and we would love to know more about her.
