A distant cousin saw one of my many queries. The family has a family Bible that lists a name of Robb or Robt. LOVE, born in Ireland, that served for 7 years in the Revolution. That's the same length of time I have listed from an old letter. However, the Bible also says he was known as G.F. LOVE (Grandfather Love??)

In the PA Archives Series 5, I found a reference to a Sgt. Rob. LOVE who was in the Bedford militia under Capt. Thomas FERGUSON. The "G" listing was Gabriel LOVE.

Also, found a reference to Henry and Robert LOVE, and a Jacob LESHER who were Contintental Troops in the Artillery. Henry was a gunner who lost his left leg in the Battle of Yorktown. Jacob and Robert were listed as "Matross". What's a matross??

Anyone out there have any data on Henry or Robert LOVE? Or Gabriel? I have checked the Abstracts for Rev. War Pensioners. There is no Robert (or G.F.) LOVE who was born in Ireland; they were born in the South. Any ideas? We have no information on this family. We are researching our families genealogy and have no living members on my fathers side to provide us with information. ------- NAME: Mona Houser EMAIL:HeritageHunt@Sandyview.info URL:http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~monajo/ SURNAMES: HAUSER, HOUSER DATE: Tuesday, September 4, 2001 QRYTEXT:David HOUSER was born 8 Jul 1801 in Maryland. He married and purchased land in Jefferson Co. Ohio in 1824 and 1826 respectively. When he died there in 1873, the death record names Adam HOUSER as his father. I have found "Adam HOUSER" on census record indexes in Allegany Co. MD. I'm looking for more details to prove or disprove that gg-grandfather David HOUSER came from Allegany Co., MD., and to learn more about the family. Thanks for any information or clues. ------- NAME: Mona Houser EMAIL:HeritageHunt@Sandyview.info URL:http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~monajo/ SURNAMES: HAUSER, HOUSE, HOUSER DATE: Wednesday, July 3, 2002 QRYTEXT:In researching my HOUSER ancestors, I've found records on the LDS site showing that Sybilla (ending in A) YANTZ married Adam HAUSER, 10 Jun 1791, Mt Zion Presbyterian Church, McIntyre Twp, Lycoming, Penn. I also found Sybille (ending in E) YANTZ m William Adam HOUSE in Frederick Co, MD on 10 Jun 1791. Children listed of this 2nd couple are Woody, Ezra, David and Susannah, born in Frederick and Allegany Counties. From census records in Allegany Co., MD and death records in Ohio, I believe that Adam Hauser had children named Ezra, David, and Mary, and perhaps Henry. Does anyone have knowledge of these families? I believe that there's a problem here -- can't believe that 2 women with essentially the same name married on exactly the same day to men of such similar names. I'm afraid someone has made some wrong conclusions, and the error is spreading. Any input is welcome! Thanks. ------- NAME: Josephine Howe EMAIL:jbonarhowe@attbi.com SURNAMES: HOWE, OGLEBY DATE: Saturday, December 22, 2001 QRYTEXT:William R. HOWE, born 1822 or 1823, perhaps in Cumberland, MD, married Jane OGLEBY on 5/22/1843 in Allegany County. The Allegany marriage notice lists his name as HOUGH, although HOWE is the correct name. They moved to Marshall County, W V, where William R. HOWE became Chaplain of 1st West Virginia Infantry, on the Union side, during the Civil War. He retired to Jones County, Iowa, where he died in 1875. William R. HOWE is buried in Olin Cemetery, Jones County, Iowa, as is his wife, Jane OGLEBY HOWE, who died in 1908. One of their children is John W. HOWE, born in 1848 in either Maryland or West Virginia. John W. HOWE also was in the Civil War from West Virginia. Other children of William R. HOWE and Jane OGLEBY HOWE are: Arthur, Wilber (Wilburn?), Margaret, Mary, Frances, Ellen(?), Emma(?), Laura. John W. HOWE married Josephine G. BONAR, born in 1852 probably in W V. They both died in Colorado Springs, Colorado: John W. HOWE died in 1919, and Josephine BONAR HOWE died in 1913. My search is for the parents and antecedents of both William R. HOWE and Jane OGLEBY and from where each family migrated to Maryland. Also welcome would be names of siblings and relatives of both families and any other pertinent information. ------- NAME: Robert Howsare EMAIL:rowhitey@pennswoods.net NOTE:118 Liberty St. Bedford Pa 15522-4011 SURNAMES: BRAYFIELD, HOUSER DATE: Friday, January 18, 2002 QRYTEXT:Any information about Christian/Mary HOUSER who lived in the Cumberland area 1800, especially as to where they lived---Any info on Mark BRAYFIELD who lived on Flintstone Creek Allegany Co Md 1800. ------- NAME: Robert Howsare EMAIL:rowhitey@pennswoods.net NOTE:118 Liberty St. Bedford Pa 15522-4011 SURNAMES: DOONON DATE: Monday, September 27, 2004 QRYTEXT:Any info on James DOONON--and his wife Elen BRENNEN who had a store on Bedford Street, Cumberland Md late 1800s or early 1900s--may be some variation in the last name spelling I have given. ------- NAME: Carol Hoyt EMAIL:hoyt446@terraworld.net NOTE:Rt. 1 Box 204 Neodesha, KS 667657 SURNAMES: CALHOUN, CLOUSE DATE: Saturday, June 10, 2000 QRYTEXT:I'm searching for information on James CALHOUN. I assume LEATHERWOOD was her married name. She shows in the 1850 census of Cumberland Md as head of household with a daughter Mary Ann age 5 years. Mary Anne was born June 14 1846. Deborah gives her age in the 1850 census as 25 so she may have been born in 1825. Would like to find a marriage of a LEATHERWOOD to Deborah. Mary Ann married Samuel WICKARD in 1869 but her name at that time was Mary Ann GILMORE. Have not been able to find any information on Mary Ann's marriage to a GILMORE. It would have been in the early 1860s. Both Mary Ann and Deborah died in the 1880s, and lived in Cumberland Md all their lives.

They were members of the Centre St Methodist Church in Cumberland. When I went there they told us that the burial ground next to the church were Mary Ann and Deborah were buried had been paved over for a parking lot! Thats hard to believe isn't it. Would appreciate any information anyone might have on Mary Ann, Deborah, or the parking lot that use to be a cemetery. ------- NAME: Maryann Hughes EMAIL:hughesmx@state.gov NOTE:P.O.
