Have been researching family for over one year but have just connected with Rootsweb. Balser (originally Johan Balthias SCHOELHORN) SHELLHORN arrived in Philadelphia 25 Sep 1751 aboard Phoenix, next recorded info shows him in Ralpho Twp PA in 1761. Married Mary AMWEG bef 1760 probably Lancaster Co,PA. Four children; Barbara, Anna,Mary (Polly)and John (my line).

I'm looking for info on my grandmother. Her name was Blanche TWIGG, born in Maryland abt.1900, according to my father's birth certificate. I've found a Blanche CAROTHERS age 21 in 1920 Census records (lived in Pittsburgh) born in Maryland, both of her parents listed as born in MD. She was married to my grandfather Harry CAROTHERS age 23, and had 3 children that I know of. The children were placed in orphanages during the depression, so all contact was lost.

In 1910 Census records of Washington County, PA, there is a Harry CAROTHERS age 40 (who may or may not be my ggf), married to a Mary E. age 25, married 5 years, with a niece Blanche F MILLER age 10 born in Maryland living with them. This may be the same Blanche as the ages from the 2 censuses are very close, and there are no other Harry CAROTHERS in the Western PA area census for 1910.

The MILLER last name is a curveball here, it could be a mistake by the census taker or the information giver. If the name Blanche TWIGG, or Mary E. TWIGG rings a bell with anyone, please let me know. Doris Twigg Goldsborough was kind enough to give me the following from the Twigg Family book, but I don't know if this is the Blanche I'm looking for. "In theTwigg Family Of Western Maryland I see a Blanche Twigg noted but with no birth date or burial. This Blanche Twigg was m. to John Herbert Barb and they were the parents of six children. This Blanche was a descendant of Norman Bruce and Mary (Bortz) Twigg." Please respond to my email. Thanks!

Looking for information on my ALEXANDER line. My gr. gr. grandfather was William ALEXANDER, born in Ireland abt. 1825. He married Ann ? who was also born in Ireland between 1824 and 1828. Ann's birth year depends on which census report you look at.

In the 1870 census for Westernport, Maryland Ann was listed as a widow with the following children:
John ALEXANDER, age 19, born 1851 in Ireland. John ALEXANDER is my gr. grandfather.
William ALEXANDER, age 15, born 1855 in Maryland
Thomas ALEXANDER, age 13, born 1857 in Maryland
Annie ALEXANDER, age 10, born 1860 in Maryland

In the 1880 census the family was living in the Barton area of Allegany county, Maryland. I believe my gr. gr. grandfather William ALEXANDER may have fought in the Civil War. I found the name Wm ALEXANDER listed in the Westernport News dated October 1864. I can't recall if it was for men who enlisted or were drafted into the Union Army. I have no idea if this Wm ALEXANDER is the same one I am researching. I only know that my gr. gr. grandfather William ALEXANDER died between 1860 and 1870 census. If anyone knows of or has any information on this family please contact me.

I have discovered the names of Patrick James CONNELLEY's parents through the Allegany County Marriage License Records and help from the FSU Librarian. The parents names are Patrick CONNOLLY and Margaret BOYLAN CONNOLLY married April 15,1872. I have reason to believe that both were born in Ireland. Based upon the marriage record, Patrick was born in 1841 and Margaret in 1847. I assume they were dependents when they arrived in the U.S. I would like to find out if Patrick CONNOLLY and Margaret BOYLAN show up in the 1850 or 1860 Allegany County Census. If so, what were there parents names/ ages and the names and ages of any siblings.
