I have Thomas DEW & wife Josinah CRABTREE (and kids) that were in Allegany Co, then moved in late 1700's/early 1800's to South East Ohio.

Were they listed as one of the "cluster of families" that moved from WV to OH?

Related surnames to this line MYERS, BEEM, BRODT, POSTON, MILLER, ZANE

I've been able to find nothing on Thomas or Josinah parents.

Would appreciate any help. Thanks,

Searching for MEYERS/MEYER: Does anyone have any info on a Mary Elizabeth MEYERS who married a Henry CLUSTERMAN from Garrett or Allegany County, Maryland......about 1880. They had dtrs Lizzie and Annie. Annie md a YOST and moved to Belleair Ohio. Lizzie md a Mr. ALLEN and lived and died at Eckhart Mines, Md. I believe Elizabeth was born in Sep 1882 and Annie in 1880. Family stories say mother Mary Elizabeth died after childbirth of Elizabeth, but I don't know that that is true. I do know that in Henry's Will of 1913 he mentions something like $5 to dtrs Annie and Lizzie, but no mention of his other children, etc. I've often wondered if there was a divorce and maybe that is why Annie went to Ohio. I am at a standstill with this because I cannot find Henry's or Elizabeth's burial site even though Henry originally bought plots at St. Patrick's in Cumberland, but church has no record if he was interned there. And I cannot get a death cert on Henry.....though I obtained a Will. Mary Elizabeth and Henry were my hubby's great grandparents. Thanks for any info.

Date posted: Monday, February 9, 1998

I am looking for some primary source information that confirms that Henry T. BEALL was the son of Isaac BEALL of Allegany (now Garrett) Co. Henry was born in 1824, the year after his grandfather, Thomas of Samuel, willed his grandchildren his property. He and his younger sister Marie are consequently not mentioned. I couldn't find a will for Isaac, his father, who died in 1850. The probate records had 3 entries in which Isaac was named judge to the Orphans' Court, in addition to an administration of his estate ...which Henry T was one of the two administrators. But the latter, did not indicate the relationship.

The 1900 census indicated he was born in WV and yet from land records, I know the family was around Allegany Co. in the mid 1800's. In the index, I see Henry (of Isaac) bought land from Henry B. Bruce (Deed book 2, p.379). Would that deed state more specifically that Henry was the son of Isaac?

I found Henry living with an unrelated family in Allegany Co. in 1850 but have been unable to locate him again before 1879 when he moved to Nebraska. The only exceptions are again land records (Book24, p. 445 and Book 31, p.191). However his two sons indicate they were born in Emmitsburg, MD and Staunton VA around that time.

Any help fleshing out Henry's story would be much appreciated....his wife's name...his whereabouts after 1850...etc.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read through this.

In the book "Allegany County, Maryland Rural Cemeteries" by Genealogical Society of Allegany County the following cemetery is listed:

Hutson Cemetery - located on 220 South at Rawlings, MD. I have been trying to find the family of my gr-grandmother, Mary Ann (Mollie) HUTSON who married Hiram/Harmon TWIGG on 9/4/1871 in Cumberland, MD. I am particularly taken with the given names of these HUTSONs. Many of the given names were names also used by my gr-grandmother for her children: William, Emma, Harriet, Elizabeth.

Hiram TWIGG's brother married Sarah Ann HU(D)SON. I really believe these two women were sisters. Sarah also used many of the given names that appear for this HUTSON line for her children.

Can anyone tell me anything about this HUTSON family line - Where they came from, siblings, marriages, etc.? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Matthew work in Lonaconing in the mines 1866-1880's.
Born to them in Lonaconing :(and lived to adulthood) were
James Alexander REID/REED/READ b. 2 May, 1873
and
Mary Elizabeth REID/REED/READ b. 25 Sept. 1878
and
Viola Beatrice REID/REED/READ b. 22 Feb. 1875
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The MOODY's were living there, had children, 2 died in a flood.

Both families moved on to ILLinois and the REID/REED/READ's on to Kansas, after Illinois.

Later a MOODY da. marries Matthew's nephew. But that's another post:- )))))))))

Any connections, or anyone searching the LOCHEAD's?

In time I'd like to know more of Lonaconing, photos, and the names of mines. But I don't have enuf' info to ask any serious questions about that now. Sincere thanks for any response.

In doing research on my MCELFISH background, I've come across several people with the MCELFISH last name, but I don't know where they fit in. All of the following info was gleaned from the various PA census films, but I've sent the message to the Allegany, MD list as well, because alot of this family (if not all) originally came from MD, and this county.

1850 PA Census, Bedford County, Roll #751, Southampton Twp, Dwelling 152, Family 152.

Jemima MCELFISH, 14 y/o white female, living with the Owen ASH family. (no explanation) (Forgot to note birthstate)

1860 PA Census, Bedford County, Roll #1072, Cumberland Valley Twp, Dwelling 731, Family 818

John W. MCELFISH 51 y/o white male, working as a farm laborer, for the Josiah BOOR family. (John noted as born in MD)

1870 PA Census, Bedford County, Roll #1304, Southampton Twp, Dwelling 73, Family 73

A(rest unreadable) MCELFISH 35 y/o white male Laborer PA born Amanda (wife) 35 y/o white female (birthstate un-noted) Mary G. (daughter) 6 y/o white female Charles (son) 4 y/o white male Caroline (daughter) 2 y/o white female

1880 PA Census, Bedford County, Roll #1098, Bedford Twp, West, pg.11 (Boyds Town)

(no mention of husband's whereabouts, if widowed, or what) Mary A. MCELFISH 31 y/o white female Housekeeper Born in PA Lottie E. (daughter) 14 y/o white female Born MD Minnie (daughter) 12 y/o white female Born MD John C. (son) (age not listed) Born MD

(didn't note which Township this one was found in)

Mary A. MCELFISH 30 y/o white female Housekeeper Born in PA, Father born PA Charles (son) 20 y/o (single) Laborer Thomas (son) 19 y/o (single) Laborer Laura (daughter) 17 y/o (single) Fannie (daughter) 15 y/o (single)

* * * * All children noted as having been born in MD, with their father (no mention of whereabouts, fate, etc. for this one either) having been born in MD as well.

Southampton Twp, Dwelling 39

Norman McElfresh 39 y/o white male Farmer born in MD, both parents born in MD Amanda (wife) 44 y/o white female born in MD, both parents born in MD Mary C. (daughter) 16 y/o Charles C. (son) 14 y/o Caroline (daughter) 12 y/o George A. (son) 10 y/o Zella F. (daughter) 8 y/o Ida V. (daughter) 6 y/o William F. (son) 2/12 y/o

* * * * All of Norman & Amanda's children noted as having been born in PA

(Found the above family in the 1900 census. Wife not listed, and assumed dead, with Charles C. and Ida V. still living with their father. Charles is listed as having been born in July 1871, and listed as 28 y/o at time of 1900 census. This birthdate completely blows given age in 1880 census out of the water. Off by 6 years?!?! Duhh!!! Ida's sounds right, at 25 y/o

If anyone knows where in the MCELFISH/MCELFRESH line that these above listed people fit, **Please** drop me an e-mail, and let me know. Thanks alot.

Moses ROBERTS m. Nancy DANNISON in 1816. By 1833 his wife was named Elizabeth in the sale of property. In between, in 1824, a son, John Edw. was born. My problem is who is the mother? Seems Elizabeth was also a DANNISON, daughter of Samuel Sr., she was identified in his 1829 will as Elizabeth wife of Moses Roberts. So Moses may have married sisters. Suppose Nancy died before 1829 and was without issue therefore not mentioned in the will. Anyone out there doing DANNISONs (DENNISONs)? Can you shed some light on this?

A son, John Peter SISCO was buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Cumberland. It's possible Peter, Sr. and wife are buried there too.

Also looking for info on their daughter, Celestial, who was 20 in the 1870 census. She does not appear in the 1880 census in their household, but I was not able to locate a marriage record in Allegany County.

A cousin, David WELSH, was living with the family in the 1870 Census. Peter's brother, Joseph SISCO, was living in Allegany County in 1870 & 1880 but went to Isabella Co., MI soon after.

Any information will be appreciated. Will share what I have on the SISCO family.
