Seeking information on KELLY's from Nova Scotia, came from Pictou to Lonaconing area about 1873 or so. Marriages with GOUGH, DOOLAN families. Coal Miners- became "saloonkeepers". For those wondering why people came to Lonaconing, there was a serious mine explosion after a long strike was settled about 1872. Many had no work in Pictou, came here.

Hello All: Am just getting started and enjoy all your postings. I just discovered my greatgrandfather Patrick Creegan in the 1890 Cumberland Census. Also 4 of his sons Patrick, Edward, Michael and Terrance. What a thrill that was! Could someone check the 1900 census and see if they are listed with their ages. I would greatly appreciate it.

Seeking information on Bridget BURNS KEARNEY, specifically an obit. She was my gggrandmother, married to Michael James KEARNEY (b. 1820 Cork, Ireland) and mother of Michael James KEARNEY (b.1861 d.1921 in Salt Lake City) and Mary Jane KEARNEY (b. 1857 d.1900).
In the obit of Mary Jane KEARNEY from the Piedmont Herald it is stated that she was survived by her sister, Mrs James HOSE (Anna M. GILLEN HOSE) and a brother, Larry GILLEN. This suggests that Bridget was first married to a Gillen and had two children in the 1850's. Seeking help with these GILLEN origins. The family lived in Westernport and were active in St. Peter's church. (Anna M. GILLEN, however, was born in New York).

My great- grandfather Patrick CREEGAN and 4 of his sons Edward, Michael, Patrick and Terrance all worked in Ocean Mines in 1890 according to the Cumberland Directory. I am just getting started and if you know of any CREEGANS or who they married, it would be great.
Civil War - Enlistment Locations
My great-grandfather, Patrick CREEGAN, (1832-1890) as far as information I have so far, lived only in Allegany Co. from 1852 to 1890. Yet his civil war papers indicate he enlisted in 1861 at Webster, PA. Where did most Allegany Co. men enlist? I cannot figure out why he went to PA. to enlist and not in Allegany Co.

The listed ancestral surnames have been my research concern for some time. I am now at the point where certain lacks in documentation are obvious. All these peoples lived in the greater Cumberland, Allegany County, MD, area, including the nearby counties of WV: Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, Morgan.
I would like to hear from any researcher who has an interest in any of these Stickley/Johnson related surnames. Is there a researcher who has knowledge about how to get genealogical data from the SS. Peter & Paul's R.C. Church archives? Is there anyone with knowledge about the "Poor House" maintained by Allegany County on Valley Road a 100 or more years ago? Does any one have knowledge about the "Canned Heat Gang" who maintained shacks on the towpath between Thomas Street (in Cumberland) and the Potomac River? Does anyone have knowledge about the "railroad bulls" who worked out of the Cumberland office.
