I found some WRIGHT surnames in Allegany County. I am searching for information about my gg grandfather, Richard WRIGHT. He was born in Maryland March 24, 1816. His parents were also born in Maryland. The earliest information we have found on Richard was 1839 in Cass Co., IL. He moved to Clark Co., IL in the early 1850's. He was a Methodist Protestant Minister. If you have any information on this family please e- mail me.

Joseph Peter BAKER (BECKER) immigrated to Cumberland, MD from Germany about 1848 with brothers George and William. They were all stone masons. George and William stayed in Allegheny County in Cumberland while Joseph BAKER moved to Wabasha County, MN and on to Ramsey County, ND. William married Mary and George married Christina.

Looking for the family of Joseph and Charity FLINT who patented land in Allegany Co. MD ca 1752-53; sold land to Richard MORRIS/MAURICE in 1759; bought land from him in 1764. Richard Morris's wife was Rebecca; was she the d/o Joseph and Charity? Richard's brother John Morris m an Unknown DOWNING; was she related to the Flints? Was there a Martha Flint who m a French and then a Cresap? Were the Flint, Morris and Downing families Baptist or Quaker? Am interested in learning more about the families that came to Lonaconing, MD from Nova Scotia from the middle to the late 1800's. Were they brought to Allegany county to work in the coal mines? Who were these families? Have been attempting to research this little project for quite sometime without a great deal of success. Would love to exchange information. Looking for information about ancestors of Walter Jones NEWELL born circa 1883 in Cumberland (Allegany County), Maryland. Am interested in any info about an Alfred MCELDOWNEY and his wife Louisa RIDGELY. Louisa was born 1828 in MD (prob Allegany Co.). Alfred's birthplace unknown (suspect he was an immigrant). They married in Allegany Co in 1847.Their first son Charles Ridgely MCELDOWNEY was born in 1852 in MD (prob. Allegany). The family later moved to St. Louis, MO. A census entry for 1850 a/o 1860 would be a great plus, but anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

Alien POWELL born 17 July 1858 PA died Jan 1958/59 Married Jacob R GROVE 24 Aug 1875 at Lonaconing Allegany Co MD. Her father was born in England (Wales??)(He had brothers who remained in England) Her mother was born in MD. Marriage License has no information on parents.

They had 6 children, (Georgina, William, Edgar, Lelah, Ethel and Mary) (The name HALLOWELL fits in somewhere) I have information on children. Anyone know her parents names?

Jacob R GROVE b 31 Dec 1842 Saline Co. Missouri married Alien POWELL 24 Aug 1875 at Lonaconing. On the Marriage registration is occupation is "Editor Allegany Co. MD". Anyone know what Newpaper Jacob R. GROVE was editor for in 1875? Thanks
