I am looking for information on my HARDEN/HARDIN/HARDING and HUGHES ancestors. My grandmother was "Bessie" HARDING (b. 1877), who married my grandfather, Thomas HUGHES, an immigrant of Ireland, in Jan. 1902. My greatgrandfather was Frederick HARDING (earlier spellings were HARDEN & HARDIN), b. 1832, married to Julia BAYLES (BAILES) in 1858. Frederick's father was William HARDIN, mother Maria. Some of Wm's other children listed in the 1850 census were Elizabeth (b. 1830); Susan (b. 1840); John (b. 1836); Mary Ann (b. 1839); and Harriet (b. 1841). The HARDINGS had come from Someset Co., PA, before settling in Allegany Co., MD.

William R. HOWE, born 1822 or 1823, perhaps in Cumberland, MD, married Jane OGLEBY on 5/22/1843 in Allegany County. The Allegany marriage notice lists his name as HOUGH, although HOWE is the correct name. They moved to Marshall County, W V, where William R. HOWE became Chaplain of 1st West Virginia Infantry, on the Union side, during the Civil War. He retired to Jones County, Iowa, where he died in 1875. William R. HOWE is buried in Olin Cemetery, Jones County, Iowa, as is his wife, Jane OGLEBY HOWE, who died in 1908. One of their children is John W. HOWE, born in 1848 in either Maryland or West Virginia. John W. HOWE also was in the Civil War from West Virginia. Other children of William R. HOWE and Jane OGLEBY HOWE are: Arthur, Wilber (Wilburn?), Margaret, Mary, Frances, Ellen(?), Emma(?), Laura. John W. HOWE married Josephine G. BONAR, born in 1852 probably in W V. They both died in Colorado Springs, Colorado: John W. HOWE died in 1919, and Josephine BONAR HOWE died in 1913. My search is for the parents and antecedents of both William R. HOWE and Jane OGLEBY and from where each family migrated to Maryland. Also welcome would be names of siblings and relatives of both families and any other pertinent information.
