HALETHORPE - A Brief Note

Printed in the Maryland Journal, May 10, 1890

Halethorpe – The suburban towns are growing apace and ”Halethorpe,” on the line of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad, in the 13th District, has made its best bow to the public. The tract contains 120 acres, and is the property of Mr. Oregon R. Benson, a member of the Baltimore County School Board, and of Mr. James Rittenhouse, an ex-County Commissioner. The land was formerly the residence of the late Dr. T. B. Hall. With a view of making “Halethorpe” a desirable place for people of moderate means to secure a home or an investment, the tract of land has been laid out in lots fronting on graded avenues. The lots range in size from 50 by 125 feet up. Several cottages are in course of erection. The avenues already constructed are lined with beautiful shade trees. Fifty-six trains pass the place daily, and the time is 20 minutes from Calvert Station. It also lies contiguous to the Baltimore and Ohio Road, and is near the Station on that road known as Quarantine. A new station called Halethorpe is building on the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad. A large number of lots have been sold at fair prices and the place bids fair to become a pleasant and attractive villa.
