Will of HANNAH (nee BOND)(ONION) McCOMAS, dtd 18 June 1792, proved 23 Sept 1796


IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, I Hannah McComas being in good health and of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be to the most high - Calling to mind the uncertainty of life and the certainty of Death, and having a right by a marriage article or contract to Devise the following Slaves, Goods and Chattles exercises them in the manner and form as follows ----

Item I give and devise unto my daughter Martha Gough one silver coffee pot and stand during her natural life and after her Decease I give the said Silver coffee pot and Stand to my Grandaughter Hannah Gough to her and her heirs and assigns forever and no more of my estate whatever.

Item I give unto my daughter Susanna McComas one silver tea pot and stand during her natural life and after her Decease give the said Silver Tea Pot and Stand to my grandson Zachius McComas to him his heirs and assigns and not more of my estate whatever.

Item I give unto my daughter Hannah Onion one Chest of Draws, one pair of Silver butter Boots, one Silver cream pot and my mourning ring and one negro girl called Julett, feather bed and furniture with curtains also one horse and saddle value twenty pounds to her and her Heirs and assigns and no more of my estate whatever.

Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Onion one Chest of Draws one pair of Silver Sault Sellers and one Silver Sugar bowl one gold ring one mulatto girl called Miriah, also one bed and furniture which is now at Mr. Henry Gough's where she now lives also one suit of curt- ins one horse and side saddle value twenty pounds to her and her heirs , etc.(as above)

Item I give unto my daughter Charity Onion two half pint silver cans one large silver Scoop spoon six large Silver teaspoons and one Silver Tea Tongs also one Gold ring one pair of Silver shoe buckles one negro woman named Amy one negro man named London blacksmith one negro girl named Sharlote one bed and furniture one horse and side saddle value twenty pounds also my four wheel Charrett but my will is that my charrett be sold and the money put to interest for her use all which I give to her and etc.,etc.

Item I give unto my loving husband William McComas one negro boy named George and one Silver punch spoon if my said husband will manumitt Negro Samson and his wife Jenny free but my will is if my said husband doth not set free and manumitt my two said negros Samson and Jenny then in that case my mind and will is that the said negro George is the property of my five daughters to be sold and the money to be equally divided among them their heirs and assigns forever.

I give unto my son Stephen Onion Six Silver Tablespoons to him his heirs forever and no more of my Estate whatever.

Item I give unto my Grandson Thomas son of Stephen Onion one negro boy called Joe to him his etc., etc.

Item I give unto my son Thomas Bond Onion one Silver pepper box and Six Silver Tea Spoons to him, etc.

Item I give unto my son John Barrett Onion one Sugerain (sp?) case of knives and forks also two corner cubords to him, his etc.

Item I give unto my son Zachius Onion one large Mahogna Table and five pounds to buy mourning to him, etc., etc.

Item I give unto my son William Francis Heath Onion one Desk and book case also one cow and calf with four sheep to him his etc.

Item I give unto my son Corbin Onion one clock and case to him, etc. Item I give unto my Trusty Negro Jack, the forgeman, and Tina his wife there (their) freedom and also Negros Sale and Jem my waiting man there(their) freedom at my death to be at there (their) own free will forever.

and Lastly my will and desire is that all my remaining part of my Estate be sold to pay my just Debts and to pay my funeral charges and the remaining part to be equally divided among my eleven children ( indivdually named as above) Share and Share alike. In witness whereof I the said Hannah have herewith set my hand and Seal this Eighteenth Day of June 1792 in the year of our Lord Seventeen hundred and ninety two.
