News from the County:
Susan Scofield of Montgomery County is seeking help from anyone regarding her family’s burial ground Ms. Scofield and many other Shoemaker descendants in Montgomery County discovered that one of their Quaker ancestors started a family graveyard in Chevy Chase and is buried there along with other relatives. The graveyard has been turned into a small community park including a few benches (the tombstones have been moved to the perimeter). Ms. Scofield has records showing that this is indeed a burial site, but no ownership records exist for it currently. Her ancestor’s deed indicates the land containing the burial ground should be conveyed to descendants such as herself. Anyone who has any information regarding this site, its conversion to a park, or other records concerning the site is asked to call her at (301) 353-9673.
