| The USGENWEB has several projects underway that are in need of volunteers. Two of these are the Tombstone Transcription Project and the Census Project. Volunteers are needed to record tombstone inscriptions and transcribe census records which will then be made available on line through the USGENWEB Archives. Montgomery County was established in 1776, from part of Frederick County, and it is important to many researchers across the country that these records be preserved and made available on line free of charge. To volunteer just follow one of the links in the text above and you will find the information on the respective pages. |
Dona Cuttler who has contributed a great deal of information to these pages has written several books related to Montgomery County History which are of interest to genealogists as well. To learn more follow the link above. |

Query System Post new queries here. The Montgomery County Query System is designed to provide rooters with Montgomery County ancestry a means of sharing info with one another. The system consists of queries with threaded responses so that others researching similar lines can benefit from any exchange of information. All of the information features available in the old query system are in place in the new system. One of the greatest benefits of this system is that it will become part of a **Searchable Database** system wide. As part of the system a new Surname Register will be generated as well.
County File Archives The Montgomery County File Archives is available to provide rooters with Montgomery County ancestry a place where they can place documents they have transcribed during the course of their research so that they may be viewed and shared by others. These documents might include things such as deeds, wills, probate records etc. Documents submitted should be in plain text format and should site the source of the information, the name of the contributor and their email address. For further guidance see the instructions on the Maryland State Pages. Please consider sharing your research with others.
