Maryland State Society NSDAR

State Curator  2009-2012

Tommie Lee Dingbaum

Nanticoke Chapter is proud to have member Tommie Lee Dingbaum as our chapter's first state officer in our 75-plus year history.  While Nanticoke supports the State Society's efforts in every way we can, our distance from the center of state activity has precluded our members from seeking state office.  Tommie Lee, a native of Crisfield, Somerset County, resides "across the Bay" and is able to represent Nanticoke at the state level.  We are most fortunate to have Tommie Lee in our chapter as although she lives a hundred miles away, Tommie Lee comes to every meeting and has most recently been our Chapter Registrar and Special Delegate, serving previously as Second Vice Regent, First Vice Regent and Regent. She has served the State Society for the past three years as a Vice Chairman for the DAR School Committee.

Tommie Lee's professional background working at The Smithsonian Institution and Historic Annapolis Foundation prior to retirement ideally suits her for her duties as State Curator, which include responsibility for the collections in the chapter house. She shall maintain an inventory of the contents of the house that includes item name, date of acquisition, donor and provenance. She shall be responsible for recommending the acquisition, by gift or by purchase of items for the chapter house and shall bring recommendations for de-accessioning to the State Board of Management. She shall serve on the Chapter House Committee and as chairman of the Gifts and Acquisitions Committee.  The Curator shall be responsible for the care and safekeeping of the society's flags, banners, and portable equipment, making them available for state meetings and events as requested by the Regent.

With her sparkling personality and quick wit, Tommie Lee will ably represent the best of Nanticoke.

Thank you, Tommie Lee!

At our May 2010 meeting, Nanticoke Chapter was honored to have three officers of the Maryland State Society in attendance for the inauguration of our 2010-2012 chapter administration.  Pictured are Tommie Lee Dingbaum, State Curator, Gretchen Panuzio, State Corresponding Secretary, and Suzanne Smith, State Chaplain.  Mrs. Smith, a native of Crisfield, Maryland, is an associate member of Nanticoke Chapter and mother of Nanticoke's new regent, Doris Moon, pictured above with immediate past regent, Lynne Rentschler.
