Seeking info on George GODMAN of Somerset County, MD, who was apparently living there at least up to 1732; am trying to link him to my grandfather, George Warren GODMAN, born 19 Jan. 1869 in Crisfield, Somerset County, MD. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
THOMAS, George W. - Looking for parents of George, believed to be great-grandson of Joshua THOMAS (Parson of the Island) and the son of John P. THOMAS and Caroline CROCKETT. George was born 1859 and married Annetta (Nettie) BENNETT on December 25, 1879. They lived in Somerset Co. at Champ. George's middle name may be Washington or Wesley. He was raised by John West TYLER and Kate TYLER (a granddaughter of Joshua Thomas, I think).
Hi, Could someone tell me how to track the transfer of ownership of a parcel of land in Somerset Co, MD? Southy LITTLETON owned a plantation called 'Pharsalia' that we believe went to his son Bowman LITTLETON in 1679 when Southy died in NY. We need to know who it went to after that until it was sold about 1878. We understand it was sold by Covington Henry Scott LITTLETON in 1878. This parcel *might* be in what is now Wicomico Co. Any help on this or the LITTLETON family would be greatly appreciated.
Please share with me anything you have on the STOCKSTILL family, sometimes spelled STOCKSTELL, STOGDSTILL and many other ways. They were in the Baltimore and Somerset Co. areas from 1732 (Edward) and 1739 (Thomas) when they received land patents from the Crown for acreage they called Stockstill's Abode and Stockstill's Forest. Acreage was on the north side of Potapisco (as spelled in patent) Falls. Many STOCKSTILL descendants would apppreciate anything offered on these families. Our Joshua STOCKSTILL, born ca 1768, needs to have his beginnings more detailed. Will share anything we have with anyone.
Looking for information on John Fisher PURNELL and his father John Fisher PURNELL. The oldest was born about 1800 and married Beersheba COX. His son John Fisher PURNELL married Nancy HICKMAN and he was born about 1834. If anybody has information to or from this juncture, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cyrus B. LOWE was born 20 Apr 1827 near Laurel in what is now Sussex County, DE. His father was John E. LOWE, Jr., and his mother was Mary JAMES. John and Mary were married about 1826. I am looking for the birth place of John E. LOWE, Jr. and of John E. LOWE, Sr., which might have been in the Old Somerset County, MD area. John E. LOWE, Jr. adopted Isaac SIRMAN, and apprenticed both Isaac and Cyrus as shoemakers to John Gordy of S. (?) on 7 Dec 1844. Sometime between 1850 and 1853, Cyrus migrated into PA and to Newry in Blair County, where he married Rebecca Jane McCONNELL. He began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1859. Cyrus died 21 Dec 1893 at Harrisburg, PA, in a railroad accident. He was a freight conductor.
I am researching Benjiman LEACH, husband of Susan MAHONY, who may have migrated from Somerset to the Noble/Monroe county areas of southeastern Ohio prior to 1849. They were the parents of Acel LEACH (1849-1918) who married Harriet LEEK (1850-1900) in 1867 in Ohio

Good Morning - I am researching the name ASCUE, ASKEW, et al. I find most of the family comes out of Jamestown, VA as far back to 1610 and a William ASKEW. It appears that some of the family are born in the new world, while "cousins" continue to arrive from England. The southern branch of Askew's has been well documented as they migrate in to NC and points South and Southwest. My branch, so to speak, comes from western Virginia. I have traced back to a Phillip born in 1779 in Franklin Co.,VA. That's where the trail goes cold. Recently I found a Phillip ASCUE in the Somerset Co., Md land records in 1679. Later we find Phillip ASCUE, son and heir of Phillip in a land transaction (Wicomico 100 in Pasquandike Branch) on 21 Mar 1694/5. The name ASCUE and ASKEW are one in the same. Since the name Phillip only appears on my branch, I am hoping to establish a connection to the Maryland family. I also know from research, that the Askews were very instrumental in the early Quaker church. The wife of George Fox, founder of the Quaker faith, was Margaret Askew Fell (widow). There is also strong evidence of their visit to new world and staying with relatives in and around Jamestown. Any information on the Askews is most appreciated. Has anyone ever found a marriage connection between a LITTLETON and a COVINGTON, probably before 1830 and in the Somerset, Wicomico area? Or does anyone know of a COVINGTON that was in the MD State Legislature in 1878? Family history says he was a LITTLETON relative somehow.
