I am searching for ancestry of William WINGATE, who was born in Delaware in 1774, according to his statement on the 1850 census. However, I have recently discovered that his Wingates may have been from the part of Maryland later transfered to Delaware. I am fairly certain his grandfather was either John or Philip Wingate and his father may have been Henry. William married Sarah CHASE in Queen Annes Co. about 1804. There are many Wingates in the 1783 Tax List for Dorchester County, including John and Philip. There is also a Philip Wingate in the same list for Somerset County. The 1782 census lists a John Wingate in Dagsborough and a Philip Wingate in Broad Creek Hundred. These places were both in Sussex County, Delaware. Could they have once been in Somerset County, MD? Hopefully, someone can help me straighten out this Wingate family!
The family of Stephen HORSEY is listed as one of the early settlers of Somerset County in 1661. I also understand that this family, along with others, were plantation owners. I am looking for any information on Job TAYLOR, born abt 1865, died Sep 1950 and Margarate Arianne JONES born 14 Feb 1867, died Sep 1952. They lived in the Rock Creek/Chance/Deals Island area of Somerset County. I can find them in the 1900 census in Rock Creek. Margaret's father was Benjamin O. JONES from the same area. I believe that Benjamin is buried in the Rock Creek Cemetery. I can't seem to find anything on Job TAYLOR.
