ESTATE OF JAMES SMYLY, INV. 1 NOV 1765, P. 309-322 BK JW9, WORCESTER, MD. INV.

Transcribed by Judy Herbert.

A list of desperate debts due James Smyly from the several persons following.

TRANSCRIBER NOTES:

[Note 1: Where the notation "Jun" is after the given name, I believe this was the indication of Jr. that was given. Where the notation "Sen" is after the given name, I believe this was the indication of Sr. that was given.]

[Note 2: This list is alphabetic only by the first letter of the surname. Within a given letter, the list is not alphabetized, so you will want to scan all entries for that letter.]

[Note 3: This is from a handwritten list, in extremely small script – 60 lines to the 8 ½ x 11 page. You may see 2 surnames that look similar, like Merchment and Marchment. I have listed each, as it appears to be on the original, however the handwriting was difficult to read, even with a magnifying glass. PLEASE review the entire list when looking for your ancestors, as some of the writing was VERY difficult to make out. I tried to list names with all possible spellings.]

[Note 4: Where an asterisk "*" precedes the name, the name was listed under the heading "A list of desperate debts due James and Samuel Smyly from the commencement of their partnership, February 21, 1763, to the time of the appraisement of the goods after the decease of the afm. James." You will note that some individuals are listed with and without an asterisk. This is because they were listed in both sections of the listing. These may be the same individual. I have added the second notation with the asterisk, as a conglomerate of the same surname with asterisks, may show families where hardship was taking place.]

[Note 5: Where a double ** precedes the name, the individual is listed under the heading, "Greatest Creditors".

[Note 6: In the document text shown below, all names have been typed in Caps, so they are easy to find and scan for.]
