PELEG and REBECCA (GROVER) SMALL

1.Peleg Small , son of
Joshua and Margery
(Toothaker) Small, b. 1810 Bowdoin Maine Married Rebecca (Grover) ,
dau. of Ebenezer and Lois (Small) Grover,b. March 24,1813 d. October 15,1854
at the age of 41 y. 4 m. 9 days. She is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowdoin,
Maine. Although Rebecca's marker and those of three of their children have
not survived, proof of their burials at Woodlawn is confirmed by a copy
of the following information I received from Jayne Bickford 9/28/98.
Woodlawn Cemetery Bowdoin, Maine
"Inscriptions copied from every stone
November 8, 1915 by Israel Phillips Folsom, Lewiston, Maine."
"...The yard has been very much negelcted,
recently an association has been formed. The yard enlarged and improvements
made and is now in fair condition."
"Rebecca

On my recent visit to Woodlawn I located and
photographed a footstone with the initials R.S. on one side and P.S. on
the other located near the headstone of Pelegs father Joshua Small. After
the death of his wife Peleg and his surviving children removed to the Fort
Wayne, Indiana area where, my Great Grandmother Mary noted in a record,
he died of Smallpox in 1857. His grave location remains a mystery. After
the death of their father, Allen Co. IN. census 1860 reflects, the children
lived for a time with their older sister Emeline and her husband Tom Bickford.
