How YOU can volunteer to work on this website:
Many projects are currently underway, including updates of cemetery transcriptions, mapping, headstone photos, and obituaries, so you might want to check with us before starting a large project to avoid duplication of effort.
The wealth of information already available for inclusion on this website is amazing. The pages have a simple format, the coding is straightforward and goes fairly fast.
Several of Brunswick's cemeteries have been mapped. Some need updating and some have recently been updated. Much of this data needs to be formatted for the website.
Black and white photos seem to work best, but we've also had luck using a digital camera. The British War Memorial Project has good advice for taking photos.
Exploring the history of one of our cemeteries will bring the researcher back to an earlier era. Some cemeteries started out as family plots on the family farm. Some are associated with churches. Quite a bit of nformation is available at Pejepscot Historical Society, but it may take digging! There's also some brunswick historical information available at Curtis Memorial Library.
The Brunswick Town Clerk's Office has graciously given us old veterans lists to use for the website, but they are woefully out of date. Updating would help our community honor ALL our veterans.
A volunteer is currently combing the old Brunswick Telegraph and older issues of the Brunswick Record for obituaries. We are particularly missing the more recent obituaries, many of which are available on the Times Record website. The newspaper has graciously given us permission to use these obituaries on the website. We could use a lot of help with that!
