| A very pleasant gathering on Thanksgiving day was at Mr. Benjamin
Chase's at Canaan village, when four generations of one branch of the family
tree were represented. Ten persons partook of the bounteous dinner,
and the sum of their ages in the aggregate was about 645 years making an
average of 64 1/2 years, the youngest being eleven and the eldest Grandpa
and Grandpa [sic] Hall aged 91 and 90 years respectively. Although
in feeble health they were able to walk from their home across the village
to Mrs. Chase's who is a daughter of Grandma Hall to celebrate once more
the Thanksgiving anniversary which seems so fitting a time for family reunions. The day was very pleasantly passed with this worthy couple who are also advanced in years but are always pleased to entertain their friends.
A colt belonging to A.D. Brown was unfortunate enough to fall into an open well one day last week and was drowned, this is something of a loss to Mr. Brown, although the colt was young it was quite a promising one. A new house is being built at the steam mill. W. F. Brown came near being injured last week by a horse he was leading out to water at N.H. Burrill's, breaking through the floor, the frightened animal made some desperate struggles but fortunately the injuries were slight. Mrs. E. S. Damon sends in a record of making forty-one pairs of pants in four days beside doing some housework. A woman who will do more than that ought to be visited by the Humane Society. It is proposed to hold our annual Christmas festival Thursday Dec. 24, and all are earnestly invited to come and enjoy this time honored and beautiful custom of remembering friends and the needy ones at the blessed Christmastide. It is hoped that all will work together to make the best and happiest Christmas. About the usual program will be carried out. Mrs. Maud Burrill has returned from Boston. One of our worthy young ladies was united in marriage Nov. 24th, Miss Cora E. Hubbard to Mr. Albert R. Blaisdell of Corinna, by Joel C. Pease. The bride leaves a large circle of friends in this town who wish her much happiness in her new home. A house warming was held at Mr. Chas. Nye's Saturday evening, quite a company assembled and passed a very pleasant evening at their home which they have recently repaired and made very convenient and attractive. A bountiful supper was served, music, songs and readings helped to pass the time very pleasantly. The young people contributed much by their music and singing. All agreed that no more pleasant evening had been passed for a long time. May they live long to enjoy their pleasant home. |
