67th Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus B. Williams

submitted by Sally F. Nelson

[1920] Mr. and Mrs. Rufus B. Williams of Moore's Mill, Canaan, have reached the 67th anniversary of their marriage.  They have been residents of this place for about half a century.  Previous to that they resided in Burnham.  This couple have kept their bodily strength well. Mr. Williams carried on his farm work until about two years ago and his wife was able to do her household duties until this fall.  Mrs. Williams is a well read woman and for many years has acted as newspaper correspondent for papers in Bangor and Pittsfield.  In earlier years she used to spin and since those days she kept up knitting and sewing and grew many flowers in her garden.  She will be 88 years old in December and her husband will be 89 in January.  Mrs. Williams was before her marriage Miss Eliza Hutchinson.  Her parents were born in Saley[sic], Mass., her mother being Abigail Chandler Hutchinson.  Mr. and Mrs. Williams were the parents of seven children, of whom two are now living, Edwin Williams of Canaan village and George Williams of Moore's Mill, Canaan.  Their daughter, Jennie, wife of George Farnham, died several years ago and the others died young.
