Mr and Mrs Charles Dickey of Canaan, Me., Rejoicing Over the Birth of Their 22nd Child

Skowhegan, Me. Nov 21 - The world's record for a large family which has been held for some time, it is generally conceeded [sic], by Mr and Mrs Charles Dickey of Canaan, was again broken by them Nov 17 by the birth of the 22nd child.

All their children have been born at single birth and all are alive and well.  The oldest child is 29.  The youngest, next to the baby, is about two years old.  Mrs. Dickey had her first baby when only 15 years old.  Mr. Dickey is now 53 years old.

Mr. Dickey has reared his family on a 60-acre farm situated on a secluded cross-road in Canaan.  He has a comfortable story-and-a-half house, where he and Mrs. Dickey live with about a baker's dozen of their children.  The older ones are away working or have families of their own.  The oldest son is a minister in California.

To maintain that part of the family which remains at home takes 14 barrels of flour, 115 bushels of potatoes and 23 cords of wood every year.  This, of course, takes considerable work to provide, but the children do their share at tending the crops.
