HARTLAND
[Jan 1927]
Mrs. Lucetta J. Barrett
Mrs Lucetta J. Barrett passed away Monday afternoon at 1.50 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ivaletta Nutting, after a brief illness of three weeks. Mrs. Barrett was born April 3, 1834 at Oakland. Had she lived until the 3rd of April she would have been 94 years old. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Merrow at Oakland where they lived until Mrs. Barrett was seven years old, then moving to Canaan.
She was married to Levi P. Barrett of Canaan in 1855 and to this union six children were born. Mr. Barrett immediately took over a claim of land at Anoka, Minn., where they lived for a time. Two children were born in Anoka. At the end of four years Mr. and Mrs. Barrett moved back to the old homestead at Canaan where the other four children were born.
Mr. Barrett passed away in 1905. Mrs. Barrett and daughter, Lucille, then lived with her daughter, Mrs. Rand of Waterville for a period of eight years. They then moved to Hartland to her daughter's, Mrs. Ivaletta Nutting where she has since made her home.
Mrs. Barrett had a very amiable disposition and was loved by all who knew her. It was very interesting to talk with her as she had a remarkable memory and was well read.
She was tenderly cared for during her sickness by her daughters and grandsons and wives. At 11 o'clock Wednesday forenoon a prayer was offered by Mary Drake Jenne, secretary of the Maine State Spiritualist Association at her daughters home. The remains were then taken to Canaan where services were conducted by Miss Jenne at 1:30. The bearers were James Barrett, Henry Thomas, Levi and Edward Nutting. The floral tributes were very beautiful and silently testified to the high esteem in which she was held.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ivaletta Nutting, Miss Lucille Barrett, an adoped[sic] daughter, Norma R. DeBech of Newport, a half brother, William Merrow of Boston, Mass., three grand children, Levi, Harold and Edward Nutting, a niece and two nephews, Grace B. Graffam and Fred and Perley Graffam of California and a sister, Mrs. Clarence Rand of Auburn.
Those from out of town were Mrs. Katherine Barrett and son, James and Henry Thomas of Skowhegan.
