Local Census Records

Like obituaries, vital records, and town directories, a variety of information can be obtain from a census schedule, depending on the decade the census was taken. The federal census began in 1790 and collected the names of head-of-household. Enumerators counted other family members. The decades between 1850 to 1930 will provide town, age, sex, occupation and full names of all family members, including children and other people living with them. Other information may include: birth date, place of birth, place of birth of parents, real estate,  military service, immigration date, and even if they own radio sets.
