(Kingston, Rockingham, NH) and
died June 18 (June 17), 1821 in Newry, Maine.
He married (1) BATHSHEBA FOOTE 1766 (1776) in New Hampshire. She was born Abt. 1751 in NH, and
died Abt. 1778 in Prob. NH.
He married (2) ANN BEAN Abt. 1779 in Bethel, Maine, daughter
of JONATHAN BEAN and ABIGAIL GORDON. She was born March 19, 1753 in
Chester, NH, (Kingston, Rockingham, NH) and died December 19, 1821 in Newry,
Maine.
Notes for ITHIEL SMITH:
Ithiel Smith settled on the Bear
River, Newry about 1780. He purchased land from Sarah Boswick for
$500. At some point he moved
to Bethel, but came back to Newry.
He is buried close to where he probably built his home, at a small family cemetery
located close to Newry Corner.
Africa was a blacksmith by trade and
listed in the 1850 census as of Rumford, Maine. Don't know what if any
relationship he had with Ithiel.
