About the Macartney House Museum
Built about 1815 by Leonard
Cornforth, mill owner in West Waterville.
Later owned by the Macartney
family, including William, William H, and Dwight; they served the town
in various posts for many years.
Acquired by the OAHS in 1974 from
People's Heritage Bank.
Moved north about 100 feet to its
present location.
A federal style Cape Cod, 2
stories, central chimney.
Furnished with many antiques and
Oakland area artifacts.
Contains a growing research library
of Oakland material.
Open summers, Wednesday, 1:30 to
4:30; other hours by appointment.
