FRANCIS 'FRANK' S. ARNONE
HANCOCK - Francis "Frank" S. Arnone, 89, died peacefully on April 2, 2002, at the Penobscot Nursing Homein Penobscot. Frank had been living with his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ralph Cahoon, since the death in January, 2001, of his beloved wife, Rose Flaherty Arnone, until he suffered a stroke in December, 2001. Frank was born on June 4, 1912, and educated in Brockton, Mass., one of the 10 children born to Rose Solari Arnone and Pasquale Vincent Arnone. His devoted, loving and caring sister, Mary Elizabeth Arnone continues to live in Brockton. Frank graduated from Brockton High School, where he was a member of the varsity football team. After graduating from high school, he attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, now the University of Massachusetts. He worked as an ice cream man at Dutchland Farms from 1925 to 1940. Later, he worked as a foreman at the National Fireworks in Hanover, Mass., until his retirement in the early 70s. In 1963, the family moved from Brockton, Mass., to Chatham, Cape Cod. For the next 35 years, Frank and Rose divided their time between Florida and Cape Cod. They also spent many summers with their daughter and son-in-law in Maine, prior to illness preventing further travel. Frank was able to do almost anything in his life and often could be found painting or building something. On one day he might be seen carrying a refrigerator up three flights or moving a fully mature weeping willow tree to a new home. One of his proudest achievements was building the family home in Chatham. He leaves four daughters, two sons, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rose Cibula, her husband, Peter and two grandchildren, Emily and "PC" Peter of Northboro, Mass.; Mary Arnone Cahoon, her husband and special friend to Frank, Ralph, of Hancock, and her two children, Christopher French of Florida and Sara French of Barnstable, Mass.; Kathryn Arnone and her husband, E. Heeney of Wellesley; Jenna Matheson, granddaughter, who lives in Switzerland; Loretta Jaksic, her husband, Tom and their three children, Kathryn, David and Alex of Wellesley; Steve Arnone of Cape Cod, Mass.; Harry Arnone, his wife, Kathleen and their two children, Harry and Laurentia of Philadelphia, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. There will be calling hours from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Jordan Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A funeral mass will be held in Rockland, Mass., at the Holy Family Catholic Church 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, with interment following the mass. During one of the most difficult times in our lives, we experienced the true compassion and caring of a most extraordinary staff at the Penobscot Nursing Home. Dad was treated with dignity, respect and kindness every moment of his life there. The staff truly provided quality care to this wonderful man at the end of his life. We would like to request that, in lieu of flowers, anyone who would like may make a contribution, in Frank's memory, to the Arnone Educational Fund, care of the Director of Nursing, to benefit the staff at the Penobscot Nursing Home, P.O.
