Hancock County, Maine
Also known as Township No. 3, Majorbagaduce, Majabigwaduce, Bagaduce,
and Penobskeag
Penobscot was settled about 1760 and incorporated as a town on February 23,
1787. Penobscot was also the first county seat for Hancock County. Portions
of today's towns of Castine, Sedgwick, and Brooksville were originally within
Penobscot.
