Former
Union Hall
and West Peru School in 1910 (now a residence).
Sits across the road from the present day elementary school.
This
school was built in 1860, by
Cyrus Dunn, who is said to have laid most of the bricks by himself.
The Peru Elementary
School which was built in 1936. By 1943 all other schools
within the town, had been closed, and the students were transported to
the new school at West Peru. The East Peru school below, at
the end of the 1942 school year, was the last school to close.

District
#1, East Peru
School, Winter of 1912
Students that year were as
follows: Gladys and Marguerite Babb, Derriel and Beryl
Bryant (my father and aunt), Frank, Leslie and Wilbur Irish, Merton and
Fred Luce, and Charles Clark.
My
name is Craig Edgar
Bryant, and I was born and raised in East Peru. Grammer School for me
was at West Peru Village, and the below pictures are some of my
classmates.
I
believe
these were taken in 1952, when we were in the 4th grade.

We graduated June 8th 1956 from the West Peru Grammer School. Of the
above 4th grade students, Robert Bowie and June Gammon left, and David
Young, Ernest West, Wayne Thurston and Richard Beck moved into town.
Whereas, Peru did not have a High School, we had the option of going to
either Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield or Canton, and most of us choose to go
to Stephens High School in Rumford. Class of 1960. Now known as the
Mountain Valley High School, M.S.A.D. #43.
