MAXWELL: I have a MAXWELL family puzzle to be solve. It gets confusing the further back I get. All I have to verify is some US Census records but that does not give me marriage dates which I need for my file. Here goes:

1880 US Census, St. George, Knox, Maine verifies what grandaughter, Melissa Willard gave me:
Stephen (Harrison) Maxwell b.14 March 1849
Wife, Melissa Pierson b. 29 June 1955
son, Thaddeus b. 1873
son, George b. 1872
son, Willie b. 1875
dau, Mary b. 1877
dau, Milie b. 1879
This gave me something to start with but I need a marriage date for them. Also, some verification of Stephan Harrison's birth.

1860 US Census, St. George, Knox, Maine
Stephen Maxwell b.abt.1810 married
Susan (Yerby) b. abt.1823
son, Stephen b. 1849 (Other children mentioned)
This son is Stephen Harrison Maxwell b. 14 Mar 1849--as stated above, need verification of birth. Also, need marriage date, if possible.

This is where it gets confusing because I have not been able to find any sort of record for the following family---what I have comes from a post on ancestry.com which I never take as gospel truth unless I have some sort of verification.
Father of the above Stephen is listed as:
Stephen Maxwell b abt. 1769 married Susannah Hawes b. 1771
children Stephen b. 1810 and others mentioned.

Is it possible for you to check this information in your books to see if this family really exist.

I need to know if Stephen and Susannah Hawes are married, date, place----and birth of son, Stephen, date and place.

Thank you for your help.

CLARK/HALL: I am looking for the names of MARTHA CLARK'S parents. Martha was born in St. George on October 7, 1792. She married ELISHA HALL, one of the sons of Caleb Hall and Hannah Snow, on July 7, 1808, in St. George, ME. She died in Rockland in 1866, where she had been living with her son George B. Hall. None of the records I have on her give the names of her parents. She was my 4th great grandmother and I would like her parents' names for my research. Thank you very much. Gr Gr Grandmother - Rovena Thompson , I cannot seem to find out her maiden name.
Children: Nellie R. Thompson (my gr gr grandmother)
Emma F. Thompson
Blanche S. Thompson
possibly 2 more that I could not find the names of.

JONES/CUSHMAN: My grandfather, Melvin H. JONES was born in 1888 in St. George...I believe...and is buried in a cemetery near by?

Are their any sites where I might find more info on the JONES family?

Relatives may have owned a piece of Hupper's...up until the Depression?

Is there more information about Alice (Cushman) Jones? and/or Livinia (Meservey) Jones? Did either have Indian ancestry?

I found mention of several "Alice Cushmans" as artists. Is there any relation?

Based on the info at the back of Smalley's "History of St. George, Maine", the Jones family in question appears to be:

Unknown and Lavinia (Meservey) Jones b. 23 Mar 1843
........Charles S. JONES b. 30 Dec 1863 and Alice CUSHMAN b. 28 Apr 1872
................Melvin H. JONES b. 24 Jan 1888

Thanks for any information that you can supply.

CROWELL/THOMAS: I'm interested in information on the schooner 'Ella F. Crowell'. My greatgrandfather, James W. It had carried a cargo of lime from the Thomaston (sic) River to New York and was returning to Maine with a cargo of cement. CHAPLES: I am wondering if you can help me find out who the parents were for James CHAPLES born around 1817 and married to Matilda HART in 1841?

Any leads you can give me will be very appreciated. Thank you,
Cindy Chaples Cavanagh, Rochester, WA, August, 2006 [kandccav@comcast.net]

SMALLEY: I am interested as to where I can find additional information on Archelaus Smalley born January 12, 1792 in St. George.

According to the records, Archelaus was the son of Joshua Smalley (b. 1748 in Truro, MA) and Keturah Hopkins (b. 1754 in Truro). I have evidence of their marriage in Truro in 1774.

I have Archelaus’ birth certificate from the Town of St. George, but looking for some proof of his parentage. Keturah is a descendant of Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins, so I am trying to prove this line.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how/where I might find this information?

Thanks.

Note: I (Dick Watts) have sent Jeff the material from both
Pgs 88 and 89 at the back of "History of St. George".

HALL: Please advise me as to how to research my HALL family roots. I have the 1840 census records showing my great great grandfather. Some relatives were sailors and some worked in the quarry. Are these brown stone quarries like the brown stone used on the buildings at Princeton University? What records are available in St. George? What is the origin of the HALL name and where did my family come from (I assume in England)? Sincerely, Shirley Matracia.
