BARTER:
We are buying a house on Barter hill Rd. in St. George. My Grandmother, Oriana Mae Barter Hilton was said to have relatives in St. George and we were wondering if our house, reported to be built in 1900, ever belonged to distant relatives. If you have any information on the family or the history of the Barter Hill Rd. we would be greatly appreciative. Thank You.

BISKEY/GRANT:
According to the book, "History of Thomaston, Rockland and South Thomaston", Hiram GRANT married Betsey BISKEY of St. George. In the 1850 census her age was 46, so I presume she was born c1804. Any info on her parents, siblings, marriage record [their oldest child was born 1823 so possibly between 1820-1823] would be much appreciated. Betty Garrett, Quebec, Canada.

Any information regarding the Chaples family from St. George Maine. The information that I now have is that there is a "Robert Chaples" that is burried in St. George Maine. CROCKER: I'm
from Nova Scotia (Canada) looking for ancestors in Maine. In the early 1900s
Albion B. Crocker wrote articles about Tenant's Harbour for the Courier Gazette
in Rockland (Knox Co) Maine. He wrote under the pen name "Boze". His father,
Charles Gideon Crocker, had kept a diary for many years and "Boze" used this
diary as a source for many of his articles. The diary (to my knowledge) has
never surfaced among Crocker relatives. Albion B. Crocker (1865 - 1940) had a
second marriage to Emma J. MURPHY (1858 - 1949) and I'm wondering if, perhaps,
the diary might be in the possession of HER family ? Albion left Tenant's
Harbour and settled in Somerville, MA . Also, is the Courier Gazette still in
existence ? If not, are their archives accessible ? Any assistsance or
suggestions for further sleuthing, on my part, would be most appreciated ! Thank
you ! Betty (Crocker) Lumsden Pictou County, Nova Scotia Betty August, 2000

CURTIS/HALL/DUNTON:
Seeking information on parants of Joanna Curtis b in Monroe, ME, February 14,
1826. Her father? is listed as John Curtis in the 1850 Census and as living with
her and her husband, John Southard Dunton , as age 80 (This would make him born
abt 1784), so perhaps the John living with them is her grandfather?). John
Curtis is not buried in the family plot in Union. He is supposedly John Curtis b
Abt. April 03, 1766 in Brunswick, ME married to Joanna Hall b abt 1771 in
Brunswick, ME. They both supposedly died in St. George, ME. The info I have been
given is second hand with no sources, perhaps someone can help me, which would
be most appreciated. CURTIS/HALL/DUNTON July, 2000

GORDON: Seeking any
information as it pertains to John or Benjamin Gordon who purchased land from
the Twenty Associates in the new town of Camden, in the later 1700's. John
bought lot # 60 in 1774 and Benjamin bought lot # 16 1785. In the book History
of Hope, Maine, by Anna Simpson Hardy, it says that John Gordon was a "turner"
from St. George. Who were these men and where did they come from? What is a
"turner" and what type of work is that associated with? Where would one find a
copy of the deed to these two plots of land? Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't believe William Henry was born a Watson. His mother was Harriet S. Maker who had William out of wedlock. 2 years after he was born she married Robert E. Richards who was already married to Emeline Thompson when William was born. Robert divorced Emeline and married Harriet Maker.
William lived with his aunt Delia Maker and her husband Gilbert Watson. He was in the 1884? census of St. George living with his aunt and uncle Watson listed as nephew. I believe that William just took over the name of Watson. My aunts that are still living says that Delia was his aunt and he lived with her.
Emeline Thompson remarried Eban Hart from St. George and had a daughter Maybel Hart. Eban's 1st wife was Martha Grover.
This story gets better..............
William H. Watson married Maybel Hart. William's mother was married to Robert E. Richards and Maybel's mother was married to Robert E. Richards. In the end Harriet S. Maker divorced Robert E. Richards and he remarried Louisa Off.
If you can find anything on a William Henry ????? born 2-16-1880. I keep thinking that maybe Harriet had William in St. George because her sister Delia lived there at the time. If you are able to seach a birth by date it would be most helpful.
Thank you in advance for any info you are able to provide, it will certainly be greatly appreciated.

Beverly Goodine,
