from Ann Springall Davies

to Bartholomew Hounsfield

September 25, 1818

This Indenture made this twenty fifth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen between Ann S. Davies formerly of the town of Stratford in the State of Connecticut now of the city of New York Widow of the first part and Bartholomew Hounsfield of the City of New York Merchant of the second part. Witnesseth that the said Ann S. Davies for and in consideration of the sum of Seven thousand and five hundred Dollars lawful money of the United States of America to her in hand paid by the said Bartholomew Hounsfield the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained, sold, released, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain, well, release, convey and confirm unto the said Bartholomuew Hounsfield his heirs and assigns forever All that Certain tract or township of Land which by a certain deed post bearing date the fourteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four under the hands and seald of John Read and Peleg Coffin Agents appointed by the General Court of Massachusetts to make & execute conveyances agreeable to a Resolve passed the nineteen day of June the year one thousand eight hundred and one was granted and conveyed to the said Ann S. Davies and which said land is therein described as a township of land lying the County of York and Commonwealth aforesaid And Containing about twenty one thousand and seventy four Acres be the same more or less, as was surveyed by John Peabody Esq. September the twentieth seventeen hundred and ninety two said township being called Letter C Bounded West by tract Letter B on the North by lands contracted to be sold to Ripley, Glover, Butler and Huntingdon on the east by States Lands and on the South by State lands or East Andover or however otherwise bounded. Excepting and reserving however four lots of three hundred and twenty acres each for to be appropriated for the following purposes: Viz. one lot for the first settled minister his heirs & assigns, one lot for the use of the ministry, one lot for the use of Schools in said township and one lot for the future disposition of the General Court, the said lots to average in situation and quality with the other lands in said township. ... And also the one moiety or equal undivided half part of all that certain other tract or Township of land which by two certain Deeds Poll each bearing date the thirtieth day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and four under the hands and seals of the said John Read and Peleg Coffin agents for that purpose appointed by the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to make and execute conveyances agreeable to the aforesaid Resolve of the nineteenth of June one thousand eight hundred and one and another resolve of the said Court passed the eleventh day of June one thousand and four said township being called and known as Letter B and is said contains about twenty five thousand and six hundred acres of land be the sae3m more or less and is in said Deeds is described as lying in the county of York and Commonwealth aforesaid. bounded on the south by the tract letter A , on the west by New Hampshire line , on the north by lands contracted to be sold to Ripley, Glover, Bulter and Huntingdon and on the east by Township Letter C or however otherwise bounded. Excepting and reserving however four lots of three hundred and twenty acres each for the following uses viz. one lot for the first settled minister his heir and assigns, one lot for the use of the Ministry, one lot for the use of Schools in said township, and one lot for the future disposition of the General Court the said lots to average in situation and quality with the other lands in said township, as by reference to the said several Deeds duly recorded in the said County of Your in Ledger 2 Pages 168, 170 & 172 for the Northern District of said County may more fully appear. Together with all and singular the privileges advantages hindituments, appurtenances whatsoever to the said hereby granted premises belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion and revision remainder and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof And also all the estate right titles interest property claim and demand whatsoever in law and equity of her the said party of the first part of, in and to all and singular the said promises herein before granted and described and any part & parcel thereof with the aforementioned.

To Have and to Hold all and singular the said premises herein before described and conveyed unto the said Bartholomew Hounsfield his heirs and assigns to the only proper use benefit and behoof of him the said Bartholomew Hounsfield his heirs and assigns to the only proper use benefit and behoof of him the said Bartholomew Hounsfield his heirs and assigns forever ... And the said Ann S. Davies for herself, her heirs , executors & administrators doth Covenant, promise, grant and agree to and with the said Bartholomew Hounsfield his heirs and assigns that the said Ann S. Davies now is the true lawful and rightful owner of the premises herein before granted and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances and that good right, full power & lawful authority to grant bargain and convey the same in manner and form aforesaid . And that he the said Bartholomew Hounsfield his heirs and assigns shall and may at all times hereafter peaceably and quietly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said premises and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances without the let, suit, trouble, molestation, eviction or disturbance of the said Ann S. Davies her heirs or assigns or of any other person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same; And that she the said Ann S. Davies her heirs, executors and administrators all and singular the said hereby granted and released premises with the appurtenances unto the said Bartholomew Hounsfield his heir and assigns against all persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim any estate , right, title, or interest of , in, or to the same or any part thereof shall and will warrant and by these presents forever defend.

In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first herein written

New York ss. Be it remembered that on this 13th day of October in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen. Before me Brockhotst Livingston on of the Associate Judges of the Supreme Court of the United States of America personally appeared William Lang fo the City of New York, Merchant one of the subscribing witnesses to the within indenture who being by me duly sworn did depose and say that he was present and did see Ann S. Davies known to him to be the person described in & who executed the within Deed duly execute and acknowledge the same as her voluntary act & deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned & that he thereupon subscribed his name as one of the witnesses thereto which being to me satisfactory proof of the due execution of the said Deed I do allow it to be recorded.

New York ss. On this 27 day of October one thousand eight hundred & eighteen before me the above named Brockhotst Livingston personally appeared the above named Ann S. Davies to me to be the person described in & who executed the within deed & acknowledged the within instrument to be her free act & deed ______________________

New York ss. On the 27th Oct 1818 Before e Brockhotst Livingston an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States came the within named Ann S. Davies and acknowledged that she had executed the within Deed. B. Livingston

Know all men by these presents that I Bartholomew Hounsfield of the City of New York Merchant have made, ordained, constituted and appointed and by these presents do make, ordain, constitute and appoint Charles Vaughan of Hallowell in the District of Maine Esquire to be my true & lawful Attorney hereby giving and deputing unto him full power and Authority for me and in my name to bargain and sell or to contract and agree for the bargain and sale of the whole or any part or parts of two certain tracts or townships of land belonging to me situate in the County of Oxford in the District of Maine, formerly within the county of York, and known and Distinguished as Township letter B and township letter C, and upon any sale or sales of the said premises or any part or parts thereof for me and in my name, and as my Act and Deed to make execute seal and Deliver to the purchaser or purchasers thereof good and sufficient deed or deeds of conveyance in the Law for the same in fee simple with such Covenants and Warranty as to my said attorney may seem expedient & proper. Also for me and in my name and to my use take and receive any bonds, mortgagees, covenants, contracts, judgements notes or securities of & from the purchaser or purchasers on any such sale , conveyance or contract and to ask, demand, sue for recover, collect and receive all such sum and sums of money as now are or hereafter may become due owing or payable to me upon any sale or sales of the said premises or any part thereof, or upon any bonds, mortgages, judgements contracts or other securities given, recovered, made or to be given, recovered or made for or in respect of the same and upon receipt of the same to give receipts, acquittances & discharges to acknowledge satisfaction of Record or otherwise as may be necessary and proper And generally to do, transact and perform all such acts, matters and things in and about the premises as I could do myself if personally present and acting therein with power to substitute and appoint under him an attorney or attorneys for the purpose of entering into contracts, collecting debts and such other limited powers as he may deem expedient & such powers at his pleasure to revoke, hereby ratifying all that my said Attorney or his substitute or substitutes shall lawfully do or cause to be done in virtue hereof _______________

In Witness where of I have hereunto set my hand & seal this fourth day of November in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen _________
