Announcing a joint venture with the Portland Camera Club

They have recently discovered over 820 photographs taken about 60 to 85 years ago. These are professional studio portraits by Ethel Wight, a well-known local photographer of the time.

January 25, 2014 - The art, history and symbolism of early New England gravestones at 1:30 PM in room 102 of the Wishcamper Center, Bedford Street, on the Portland USM campus, presented by "The Gravestone Girls" of Massachusetts. This is the first lecture in a three-part series sponsored by Spirits Alive at Eastern Cemetery. Suggested Donation: $5.00 per person at the door.

April 5, 2014 - MGS Spring Workshop at the Elks Club, 397 Civic Center Drive, Augusta, ME. Featuring Maureen Taylor, the Photo Detective and co-hosted by the Maine Historical Society.

May 31, 2014 - Southern Maine Genealogy Conference. To be held at Keeley's Banquet Center, 178 Warren Avenue, Portland, ME from 9am to 4 pm. Joe Anderson will be the keynote speaker.

May 30, 31 and June 1, 2, 2014 - MOCA workshop. To be held at Old North Parish Cemetery at Wiley's Corner, St. George, ME. This will be a four-day hands-on cemetery restoration and conservation workshop led by Joe Ferrannini from Grave Stone Matters of Hoosick Falls, NY.

June 17 - 22, 2014 - Association for Gravestone Studies 2014 Conference. to be held at Franklin College, Franklin, Indiana.
