The Maine Genealogical Society (MGS) is a non-profit charitable and educational organization.  It was founded in 1976 to collect, exchange, preserve, and publish genealogical records, related documents, and information; and to promote and encourage interest and scholarship in genealogy and family history of the State of Maine.

A Message From Our President

The pursuit of family history is an endeavor of love - a blend of learning and searching - a quest that is never-ending.  We all come to this addiction, as that truly is what it becomes, from different places and for different reasons.  My quest began just seven years ago, when at the death of my mother-in-law we realized we really didn't know anything about her heritage - that heritage that made her the unique person she was.

Whether your search for information includes the state of Maine or not, the Maine Genealogical Society has something to offer.  Our society is dedicated to preserving and encouraging sound genealogical scholarship.  Through our quarterly journal, the Maine Genealogist, our annual conference, and our special publications including the Maine Families in 1790 series, the Maine Genealogical Society and its chapters offer research and educational opportunities to assist genealogists be successful and confident in their research endeavors.

If you are a member, we're here to serve you - drop me a line and let me know how we are doing.  If you're not a member, I hope you will join the Maine Genealogical Society and help us continue our efforts on behalf of all genealogists.

Dale W. Mower

President

Genealogical meetings around the state...

Please be sure to check the Maine Events page of our website for a listing of meetings and special events of our society and our chapters around the state.

Stay in touch by reading our blog...

In October, 2007, we started blogging and we invite you to visit our blog at http://mainegenealogical.blogspot.com.

We established the blog as another means of communicating information timely and efficiently to the members of Maine Genealogical Society.  With our newsletter published quarterly, sometimes announcements come in that just don't allow us to get the information distributed prior to an event or deadline, or due to space constraints with a print newsletter, there is not enough space to include.

All postings to our blog will be related to genealogy - announcements and press releases related to genealogical events, publications, products, etc.  We'll also be able to post queries and questions from members here as well as we move forward.  We invite you to post comments to any article or announcements as well.

We hope you enjoy this supplemental channel of contact.

Hosted by RootsWebA special thank you goes out to RootsWeb for the support they generously give to the genealogical and historical communities.  Free web hosting is provided for this website to help you further your research endeavors.
