A site about the 27th Maine Infantry of the Civil War
Member John Dow is writing biographical sketches on each (hopefully) of the 949 soldiers that served in this regiment, nearly all enlisting from York County. The index of all their names is up, and I am in the process of typing up and posting the bio's that I've written so far (perhaps 300+)

A Baker of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1658
By 1729, Edward's grandson, Edward (Nathaniel's son), had migrated to Arundel / Biddeford, Maine. Many Melchers descend from Joseph and Samuel (the presumed sons of grandson Edward) who were living in Brunswick / Topsham in 1757. Although claimed in several publications, the relationship of Joseph and Samuel to Edward has not yet been proven.
