Vance [posted 7 November 2003]
In the cemetery at Readfield Corners in Kennebec County there is a large old vault, mostly above ground, which merely has the word Vance on it. I assume that this is the burial place of (Squire) William Vance who died in Readfield in 1841 about 80 years of age, leaving a large posterity, an interesting will, and a disaffected young wife, Charity (Stafford). Vance had been a colorful figure in eastern Maine (Washington Co.) and New Brunswick until he moved to Kennebec Co. in the 1830's. He had been, among other things, a delegate to the Maine Constitutional Convention in 1820.
I am interested in contacting anyone who has more specific information about this gravesite -- Is it William? Are other family members buried there? etc.
Also am interested in anyone who can trace descent from this William Vance.

Vincent [posted 3 September 2003]
I am trying to locate the Cem. where Eliza and Frank Vincent are buried.
Know they lived in Whitefield, Maine in the 1910 census for there. Cannot find them in the 1920, so think they must have died in between those years. I know there are Vincent stones in the Calvary Cem. in Whitefield, but not with the names I am looking for.
Have looked in the St. Denis Church Cem. also and didn't find them there, but I could have missed them too. Not sure if other Cemeteries in town. Know Frank X. Vincent was 1st married to Ann Wynne, another name known in Whitefield from the past.
They lived in MA at their marriage time, she died very young and not sure if she died in Maine or MA. His second wife, Eliza may have outlived him, she was born in NY, so am not sure if she returned to there or not. Would think that Frank/Franklin/Francis probably was buried in the Whitefield area though. The Vincent's in the Calvary Cem. now are his family. Will share any info I now have.
Any helps, ideas, are most welcomed.

I think it is Cousins Island that the cemetery is on My great great grandfathers stone is in the middled of the cemetery and it is very big. I am trying to trace my ancestors and am trying to find out the cemetery and any other information. I am unable to come to Maine to do this research and would appreciate anything you can tell me. Solomon [posted 19 August 2003]
SOLOMON- Looking for the grave site, or any other information, on the life of my great great grandfather, Richard Carlton Solomon, who was born in West Ely, Quebec, Canada on 28 Oct 1858. While still in West Ely, he married Martha Jane Moffatt or Moffitt, who was also born there in abt. 1858. They had 7 children.
Their children were Merrill C., Lucy E., Herbert G., Wilfred A., Clifford James, Hugh Jay and Mabel E. As adults, all of his children resided in Maine, except for Wilfred "Fred" who resided in the Barre, Vt area.
Richard left Canada and relocated to Auburn, Maine in abt. 1883, possibly under some questionable circumstances. Martha later divorced him and he remarried to a Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mary Beal on 25 July 1908 in Auburn, ME.
Elizabeth was born on 17 May 1864 in Greene, ME to Mary Lane and Charles Beal. Elizabeth was the widow of Henry Warren McAvey. She and Henry were married 04 Sept 1881 in Greene ME. Henry died in August 1901.
Elizabeth and Henry had at least five children, these being Evelyn, Willard, Frank L., Charles H., and Glenn E.
Richard was reported to have been a member of the Shiloh Church in Durham, ME, at some point after his arrival in ME, but the current Shiloh Church records do not mention him.
Richard lived in various sections of Auburn from Gamage Ave. to Hotel Rd to Old Danville Rd. Richard died on 28 March 1930 in Lisbon Falls, ME, though he was reportedly residing in Auburn at the time. His death record shows that he was buried in Lisbon Falls, but no cemetary name was listed. The undertaker was listed as Plummer and Merrill, but they do not have record as to which cemetary he was buried in. My family has searched all the known Lisbon and Lisbon Falls Cemetaries over the past 20 years without having success in finding Richard. As he was estranged from his first wife and his children at the time of his death, it is thought that he may have been buried in a plot owned by his second wife's family, the Beals.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.Paula M. Lyons-Myrick

Clark [posted 18 May 2003]
I am looking for the burial site of my ancestor Ichabod Clark. He died in 1829 in Hermon, Maine . I have not been able to find an exact date of death. His estate inventory was filed by June 1829 in Bangor. At one time years ago I did view a MOCA film but it may not have been the right area. His wife Mary Lancaster Clark died at her son Richard Lancaster Clark's home in Hermon, the 1860-1870 time frame (going by census years only as I am unable to go to FHL), I am unable to locate her gravesite but would suspect she is near him. They originally were in the Levant area. These towns are in Penobscot County, ME. Can anyone help locate his burial site? This is all the info I have on him.
Thank you,
Peggy Bruce

Palmer [posted 12 May 2003]
Looking for small cemetery noted in the History & Genealogy of the Palmer Family (1965)..."in the east part of Brighton, Maine on the Parkman line.." There is a very small cemetery on the little hill beside the beach at Brettuns Pond in Livermore that, I was told, contains the graves of many of my Russell relatives. Ramsdells [posted 25 April 2003]
I'm looking for a grave stone for (2) Gideon Ramsdells.
I believe the first Gideon might be buried in Gray.
He was born in Abindon, MA. married Sarah Nash
there and had some children there. Moved to Gray.
The book on Gray says 1744-1818 or 1819 after
his name. That info must come from something?

The second Gideon supposedly born 1781. I found
his marriage1804 in Gray. I think he moved to Garland.
I'd love to find either or both of these stones.

Holt [posted 8 April 2003]
How do i go about finding a listing for all the Holt listings in Androscoggin county? I found my grandparents and great grandparents (Fred and Irene Holt , also Oliver and Julia Holt) in Maple Grove Cemetary in Mechanic Falls, Maine. However i know others are in other towns such as Poland, possibly Minot and maybe others around the area. Since i live in Ct. and can't afford to travel there to do extensive searching it makes it verey difficult to find all the things i want to know. Also any suggestions on how i can get any info on the house my grandmother Irene owned when she died in Mechanic Falls. I would like to find a picture of it as it used to look. When i went there last Oct. i cried to see what has become of it . I was hoping to paint a picture of it as i remember (sort of, as i visited it when i was very small and am now 70) . Since i was told it was built in 1850 (or so) and the downstairs was a store maybe it has a history . If i only knew where to look. I know it was across from the RR station which is now a redemption center The house being listed as 4 judson st. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Missing Cemetery [posted 3 April 2003]
I contacted MOCA a few years ago about finding my family cemetery that is located on the Saco Tannery Hazardous Waste site. The cemetery was damaged by the tannery. I think I know what happened and where some of the burials were moved to. The cemetery is not on any list or map. Only one other descendant is aware of the cemetery. I would like to find others who are related to the people in the cemetery and who might be interested in taking care of it.
Is there a way to publish the following list of names?
John Stewart Died 1790
Wives
Mary Bragg Stewart
Mary Holmes Stewart
Jane Roberts Stewart
Timothy Stuart (son) Died 1821
Wives
Molly McKenney Stuart
Mercy Hanscom Stuart
Solomon Stuart (Grandson) Died 1852
Wife: Phebe Foss Stuart Died 1863

I will appreciate any advice on how to contact relatives of the people in the cemetery.
