April 2008 KEENAN / CROWELL: I am researching the Keenan family of Greene, Maine. George Keenan was married to a Malinda Crowell of Waldo, Maine. She was born in approximately 1835. Her father may have been Sylvanus Crowell. I believe that I found her living with the James Pendleton family in Prospect, Maine in 1850. She was 15 at the time. And then another Crowell girl, is listed on the same page of the census living with the Ward family. She was age 10. It's possible that their parents may have died young...? She was married to George Keenan by 1857, as that is the date of the birth of her first child, Elizabeth. That is about all I know of her. Does anyone have anything on this lady? Reply to: Sally Groves 30 Apr 08 REYNOLDS / DODGE: I am trying to find a marriage record of a Isadore Reynolds and John F. Dodge, they are listed together in the 1870 census in Jackson, Maine. He was 43 and she 16. So I believe they were not married for long before this census. They had three children: Charles, Jennie Nellie, and John Abner Dodge. Does anyone have any records of them? I would appreciate any help. Reply to: Larry Dodge 30 Apr 08
March 2008 MORSE: I am trying to find out where to look for information on these families and where they might be buried. I thought you might be able to send me a link if you know of them. Frank L. Emmons and Helen M. Wentworth had a daughter Mae J. Emmons who later married Albert H Morse or Mosse. They had Edwin Mitchel Morse who was my uncle. Mae may have died between 1910 and 1918, we're not sure.

He married Martha Fletcher. I have it that he lived in Troy, Maine, but was born somewhere in N.H. Does anyone have anything on him? I would like to know who his father and mother were. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Reply to: Barbara 26 Mar 08THOMPSON: My second and third great grandfathers are from Searsport, Maine and they were mariners. I'm trying to find some documentation to prove this. I hope you can help me. They are Robert D Thompson b: 1799 and his son, Thomas J Thompson b: 1833. Any help would be appreciated. Reply to: Ray Thompson 26 Mar 08 WHIPPLE/BATCHELDER: I'm working on a brick wall of my mother's - the Whipple/Batchelder lines . Polly Whipple, b. very approximately 1786 in Waldo ME m. Nathan Batcheldor (b 1784, Deerfield NH d. Palermo ME) very approximately 1804 Maine. He was the son of Deacon Nathan Batchelder (b 1747, Hampton, NH d ME, apparently moved after the Revolutionary War) and ??? Taylor. He also married a woman named Bryant, but his 5 children (Nathaniel, John Taylor (m Betsy Bradbury), Nathan (of m. to Polly fame), Simon, and Betsey (m. Albert Cargill)) were by Ms. Taylor. Nathan and Polly had 8 children that I know of: Sally, Eliza, Taylor, Cyrus, Mary, Ruel, Lousia Flavella and James Gardner, in that order except possibly for James Gardner. Louisa Flavella is my ancestor. I have a copy of her death certificate listing Polly and Nathan as her parents. She was b. c 1820 (either Waldo or Palermo, I suspect the Waldo is the county designation) and d. 1905 in Portland. I can find ***nothing*** about a Whipple in the area and nothing about Flavella's (I've seen her name listed by others as Flavella Louise) siblings. I've been to Augusta, but the family records seem to have been destroyed in a town hall fire. Does anyone know anything about these families - have you stumbled across them in a cemetery? I'd love to have some help and do plan to visit the area during the summer. Are there cemeteries that are most likely? Is there a local place where record copies might exist (yes, I know that copies would probably be in Augusta if that were the case, but I find it strange that I can't find anything about these people). Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your attention, even if it's just smiles recognizing
the situation.

COLOMOORE: I am looking for information on Mary Jane Colomorre.
I believe that she was born in Searsmont in about 1811 or 1812.
COUILLARD: Hi, my name is Bruce R. Couillard and I am a descendent of Pvt. John Couillard and Mary Mock and Samuel Couillard and Lois Howard. I visited Monroe, Winterport, Frankfort, area last Memorial Day weekend after my granddaughter graduated from Colby College. I plan on returning to the area because I want to find Lois Howard Couillard's grave site in the Oak Hill Cemetery. I was able to find Sam's grave site in the Metcalf Cemetery but could not locate his wife. I did not have access to the location exactly and thought I could just walk up and find it. I did find other Couillards but not hers. I would like to contact someone from the Winterport Historical Society and make arrangements to meet with them this spring. I have read the Couillard account in the History of Monroe and have some letters written by Samuel to his children when he lived in Frankfort. These span the dates from 1840-1851 when he died. I have letters written by his children to each other at this time and later. The letters are mostly back and forth from Oconto, WI to Frankfort and Winterport. I am also interested in the Couillard Ferry just north of Bucksport and the adjoining farm land. I am through Thomas Howard Couillard Sr. and Jr. who went to Wisconsin from Corrina, Me. in 1849.
I am interested in Lovina Couillard and Samuel
Dennent, and Louisa Couillard and Benjamin
Woodman who were Samuels' daughters and son-laws.
I also am interested in Samuel L. Couillard Jr. who went to
Boston and holds : Patents on the Couillard Printing Press and also
on Wool Combing machines. In the one letter Sam mentioned
that his neighbor Capt. Sam Dennet married his daughter
Lovina and he lived next door. I see by your map that S
Dennet has property in the North East Corner.
As you can see I have a lot of questions to ask. I have carefully reviewed the Arrowsic Area in Georgetown and find that Pvt. John left there and moved to Frankfort, at the beginning of the revolution or about 1773. He started out as a drummer and switched to the regulars about that time. He was killed in a mill accident working for Treat in abt 1786. Some reports show his death ten years later. His grave could be near by. I have no dates on his wife, Mary Maragret Mott. EDWARDS, WEBB, WHITAKER: My Edwards family is descended from the following
families
and I would like to find out more about them or even
find some new cousins. JACKSON: I am seeking information on John Jackson of Belfast. He is reported to have been a sea captain. Can anyone tell me where his papers or verification of his captainship would be located? Reply to: Hal Inglis 29 Feb 08 MERITHEW: I have traced my great grandfather, Augustus Lyman Merrithew to Searsport ME and that is as far as I have gone. Does anyone have any further information relating this Merrithew to the Sea Captain of the same name? Reply to: Cheryl Davis 29 Feb 09 THOMPSON:

29 Feb 08 January 2008 COLCORD: My name is Jean Kuhn, wife of Walter N. Kuhn whose 3rd great-grandfather was a Capt. John S. Colcord from Searsport, Maine. He was the husband of a Susan Crockett. He was born October 13,1810 in Maine and died on December 5, 1874. His children were Adenman P. Colcord, Walt’s 2nd great-grandfather, Adelbert H. Colcord, Amanda P. Colcord and Amelia Emma Colcord. We have no more information than the above. Would anyone have more information than this? It was said that he was a captain on one of the ships that went out of Searsport. Any information would be so greatly appreciated. I am the family genealogist and I am diligently working on my husband’s side and wish to go back as far as possible. By the way, I am seeking any information about his wife’s parents, etc. the information would be greatly appreciated as well. Susan was also born in Maine. Reply to: Jean M. Kuhn 2 Jan 08 DOUGLAS:
I’m working on my direct ancestry for Robert Douglas (mariner-sea
captain at Isle au Haut) who married one of the Lanpher
daughters, and is found in wartime court documents, with Stephen Lanpher,
living in the 1790’s in Bucks Township 1 (later Bucksport) & Searsport
areas. Any Lanpher leads/information would be truly appreciated. DOWNS: Seeking information on Zenas Downs of Swanville. I think he might be son of Paul Downs and Margaret Moor. Zenas is listed in censuses variously as Zenas, Lenas, Zenon, LL, as one might expect. I believe he married Margaret Jane Mitchell. Also, there is a Clevland, age 93 in 1860, living with Paul. Could this be Paul's father? In an online message, I saw a query where someone wondered if Paul's father were Moses of Strafford. So perhaps Clevland is not the father, but an uncle? And how should Clevland be spelled? I saw relatives with Cleaveland and Cleveland. Reply to: Pamela Beveridge 31 Jan 08 FREEMAN:
Would appreciate any information regarding Richard and
Anna Freeman who were born abt 1780 in Castine/Penobscot and
their children, marriages, deaths, etc. I know that he owned a lot of
property in Monroe, Frankfort, etc., and had dealings with Henry
Knox. When I was in Maine last summer I checked out the deeds in
Belfast, but unfortunately did not do Probate (I'll e-mail them). Am
desperately trying to track down anyone-perhaps a present day descendant
who just might have some information about Richard's father
and sister. I believe that Richard's father was
Peletiah Freeman, and his sister, Elizabeth, was my
ggg grandmother who married Joseph Binney in Castine. HOPKINS: I am attempting to straighten out the mess I have regarding the children of Captain Smith Hopkins and his wife Susan Dwelley who lived in Frankfort. There seems to be a problem with my late mother's Mayflower Society paperwork, and from piecing together the names she had from different family group sheets, I think I can understand why. It now looks to me like she has grandchildren of Smith and Susan listed as their children. Things don't match up very well from looking at the census reports at Ancestry.com for all the Hopkins family members in Frankfort. My mother's information came from Hopkins Family Marriage Records by William M. Clemens, 1916; Frank L. Hopkins (former town clerk of Frankfort) personal journals; Lillian A. Parker (former town clerk of Frankfort) personal records; Joseph M. Dwelle of Lake City, MN: and a lady named Hazel Hammond. In order for me to apply for membership with Mayflower I must clear up the problems concerning my mother's papers that at first were accepted but were later rejected. What a mess! Any help anyone can give on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Kathleen Parker-Hopkins 31 Jan 08 LAMBERT: Looking for information (parents, grandparents, etc.) on Robert Lambert (born abt. 1785 Waldo) believed to have been married to Nancy Folsom (born abt. 1789 Mt. Vernon). Their son Daniel was married to Sarah (nee Fannington???). Daniel served in the Civil War and died during service. Daniel's daughter Eunice (b.1849) was married to Orrin Small. Now that is definite! Eunice and Orrin are my great-grandparents. Any information on Sarah's background would be great! Reply to: Mary 31 Jan 08 MURPHY: Pursuant to information provided by the Maine
Historical society, a William Murphy registered in the
1830 census as a resident of Hope in Waldo County. A son, also named
William, is also named (in a household of eight people). The younger
William might be my great-great grandfather who went to
New Zealand on the Nantucket whale ship "Mary Mitchell" in 1835, before
coming to Australia where he was a pioneer in the State of Victoria. On
one of his children's birth certificates, he gave his birth place as
Maine, USA and his father's name as William. He was born in
1816-17. PERKINS: I am looking for information on
Fred W Perkins, born February 27, 1896 in Frankfort, Maine. His
mother's first name and middle initial is Flora E. She had two
children before him, Forest L Catlin and Wilfred Benton Catlin.
Forest died in October 24, 1918 during WWI due to pneumonia.
Forest is buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, France. Flora E
married a Willard Sanborn, residing in Jackson, Maine in 1900.
She had two sons with Willard Norman Whitten Sanborn and
Maurice/Morris Sanborn. I would like any additional information that
can be found for this family. Flora's maiden name and Fred
Perkins' father are of great interest to me. REED: Looking for information on Herman Reed, son of Fred Reed Jr of Frankfort, Maine, who married Barbara Clauson. Herman moved to England and was a teacher there. Would like to find a male descendant of Herman's who would be willing to take DNA test to prove or disprove the family legend of Native American blood in the Reed family. I have a photo of Olive Reed Grant, sister to Charles Reed, father of Fred Reed Sr. Olive Reed Grant looks very Native American in the photo. If any information known, please contact me at Kathleen Parker-Hopkins 31 Jan 08 STAPLES: I am searching for information about Isaac S Staples. He was born c1840 and married Mary Ann Jones. He was a Carriage and Sleigh maker living in Brooks, Waldo Co Maine. I am especially interested in his business of building Sleighs. Reply to: Mary A Burrows 2 Jan 08 TIBBETTS: I am still at a road block trying to locate information on William Tibbetts and Susan Wells born in Frankfort, ME. I believe them to be the parents of Albert E. Tibbetts born in Winterport 05 May 1861. I've been to Winterport town hall and found a hand written notice of the birth of Albert E. Tibbetts but no info on William or Susan. I also found nothing on them in Frankfort Town hall. I live in the Seattle area so trips to Maine are few and far between. Any info would be appreciated. Barbara Tibbetts Chace 2 Jan 08 TOWNSEND: I am researching a Samuel Townsend, who had a family in Freedom, Maine in the early to mid 1800's. He had one daughter, born in Freedom, named Martha J. Townsend (J.- I believe stands for Jane). I would appreciate any information on this family, parents, vital records info, etc. Reply to: PatriotGirl777@aol.com 31 Jan 08 ULMER: I am akin to the early Ulmers in Ducktrap being General George Ulmer and his brother Major Philip Ulmer ... I go to the restaurant to eat lobster and visit my "family heirloom," the cannon on the beach faithfully...but it gives me no genealogy info so I need some help.
Philip Martin Ulmer and Christiana Young
Jung family...it says they had eight children... I found seven,
but any info you can give me on them would be ever so greatly
appreciated. One more question...I am a summer cemetery
stomper looking for old ancestral graves so where in the world is
Osgood Point Cemetery?? I plan on broadening my horizons beyond the
restaurant here you see...

SMITH: My father's name is Edward Williston Smith, Sr. My mother's name is Dorothy Mae Alvord Smith. Her maiden name was Alvord. My grandmother's name on my mother's side was Marjorie Alvord. My parents lived in Belmont in the 1940's & 1950's. My grandparent's names on my father's side were, Muriel Small (maiden name) & Fred Smith. She married Fred Smith & after he died, she married Maynard Hills. I think my mother's father's name was Albert Alvord. Reply to: Lorraine Newton 31 Dec 07 SNOW: One of the earliest settlers in the area that was to become the town of Monroe was a man by the name of Aaron Snow. He moved to Monroe from Gorham, ME about 1802 with his wife and young children. He reportedly built a grist mill on the Marsh Stream in Monroe Village which he later sold to Broadstreet Mason. He then moved to western Monroe and started farming. He is listed on the 1810 census with his wife, 3 boys and 3 girls. He does not appear on later censuses for the town of Monroe. Does anyone know what happened to this family? Reply to: Guy Sanderson 31 Dec 07
