Alcona County Library
Staffed by some wonderful and friendly people,
the Alcona County library in Harrisville has a great
local history and genealogy room.   Not only does this branch have many,
if not most, of the Doris Gauthier books, but it is the repository for the Alcona
County Herald and the Alcona County Review on microfilm.

Alpena County Library
The Alpena County Library system is the repository
for may of the Alpena newspapers.   They will gladly copy obituaries for you, but
don't inundate them with too many at one time.   Generally, request 3 at a time.
  You can include a donation if you'd like and, as always,use an SASE.   Another

So, you're sitting at your computer miles away
from Alcona county just wishing that your ancestor had had the foresight to purchase
"History of the Lake Huron Shore with Illustrations and Biographical Sketches of
Some of Its Prominent Men and Pioneers" (1883) and then had left it to you in some
dusty old will.   Well, fret not. This library has ON LINE county histories that are
viewable as scanned images or in pdf format.   You'll also find "A History of
Northern Michgan and Its People" (1912) by Perry F. Powers.
