History:Timeline Arenac County Timeline 1870 - Deep River township is organized covering the territory that today is both Deep River and Adams townships. The area was previously a part of Beaver township in Bay County 1883 - Arenac County was formed from land previously under the government of Bay County. 1883, June 16 - The first recorded marriage in the new county of Arenac occurred when Thomas Noonday of Saganing, 23, was married to Nancy Thompson of Pinconning, 17, by E. H. Chamberlin, J. P. - Contributed by G Knopp 1886, May 11 - First Presbyterian Church of Maple Ridge was organized. It was the first church organized in Clayton Township. - Contributed by Marlene Banks 1886 - the western half of Deep River township is separated to form Adams township. It was named for James Adams, one of the first settlers in the area. Mr. Adams is elected the first township supervisor. - Contributed by G Knopp 1887, September 4 - St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling was organized. The first recorded baptism was conducted the same day when Karoline Daley, daughter of Wilhelm Daley and Anna geb. Fahl was baptized by Pastor Praetorius. She was born August 6, 1887 at Sterling.
