Brief History of Athens
In 1831, Isaac Crossett and six others were the first settlers here. The name came from
the town of Athens (Greene Co), NY where many early settlers were from. The township was
organized in 1835. Some early officers were Benjamin F. Ferris (clerk), H. C. Hurd
(justice of the peace), and Franklin C. Watkins (treasurer). |

Survey Agreement
Interesting early document from Athens, which was also known as Dry Prairie, agreeing to
pay for the surveying and platting of the land.
