Calhoun County Almshouse Death Records
|

|
A
ledger of the inhabitants of the Calhoun County Almshouse,
familiarly known as the Poor House or Poor Farm, came to light when
the Brooks Appliance Company building in Marshall was cleared out on
the third floor. The book was found in a box of mixed items.
It was given to Richard D. Carver for his historical collection and
he has shared it with the Calhoun County Genealogical Society.
The late Ann Heisler began the work of transcribing and entering the
records of the annual list of residents into a computer database and
Sandy Redmond is currently completing the task. For a quick study of those persons who died at the
Home between the years of 1850 and 1870 this list has been compiled
by Verla Potts. The township responsible for placing the person in
the home has been included as a means of locating a burial site
since there is no record of whatever burials were done at the home
site’s cemetery. |
