JARVIE RITES
Henry Jarvie of Rudyard died Thursday morning at Little Traverse Hospital in Petoskey. Born Feb. 13, 1908 in Rudyard, he worked for the Chippewa County Road Commission for 43 years and was a foreman at the Rudyard garage for many years until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of Rudyard Volunteer Fire Department and the Rudyard Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife Mabel; three sons, Otis of Scotville; Henry Jr. of Ypsilanti and Robert of Green Bay; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Polly) Ross and Mrs. James (Prudy) Allen, both of Rudyard; three brothers, Edward and Eino of Rudyard and Walter of Bay Mills; four sisters, Mrs. Linnie Tilson of Rudyard, Mrs. Sylvia Berata of Rudyard, Mrs. Lillian Roe of the Sault and Mrs. Aina Kaestner of Phoenix, Ariz.and 17 grandchildren. Friends may call today, Friday 5-9 p.m. at the Quinnell Funeral Home in Pickford. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rudyard Presbyterian Church, Rev. Frank Wenn and Rev. Robert Schrader officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. The body will rest in the church for one hour before Saturday services. Memorials may be sent to the Rudyard Presbyterian Church or the cancer fund.

Mabel (Cartwright) Jarvie, 83, of Rudyard died Tuesday, July 2, 1991 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. She was born February 10, 1908 in Dryburg and was a lifelong resident of the Rudyard area. She retired from Rudyard Area Schools after working there for several years. She was a member of the Rudyard Presbyterian Church, Rudyard Area Senior Citizens and Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, on April 5, 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Polly Ross and Prudy Allen, both of Rudyard; sons Otis of Scottville, Robert of Green Bay, Wis., and Henry of Ypsilanti; sister Mary Hunter of Muskegon; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, July 5, at 3 p.m. at Rudyard Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bruce Whitney officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Rudyard Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Reamer Funeral Home of Pickford.

MARGARET KELLY
Margaret Campbell Kelly died at her home at Pickford at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 1946 after an illness of 3 and half years. Cerebral hemorrhage was given as the cause of death. Born at Sheffield, England, April 11, 1887, Mrs. Kelly had lived in Pickford since 1920 and was married there March 9, 1921. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Glasgow, Scotland. Her husband James of Pickford: a daughter Isabelle of the Sault; two sons, Donald and Vernon of Pickford, a sister Mrs. Peter Hutchinson, in Scotland, and a brother James Andrew, in England survive her. The body is at the Quinnell Funeral Home at Pickford, where brief services will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, preceding the funeral at the Pickford Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. M.G. Martini and the Rev. Gervase Zanotti will be the officiating clergymen. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Hill, Clifford Robinson, Eugene Sweeney, Vern Eveleigh, Wesley Eveleigh, and Kenneth Weston

Robert e. Kennedy, 709 w. 27th Ave., Sault, died Thursday at War Memorial Hospital. He was born May 9, 1906 in Nevada, and was a Retired Lake Superior College Professor. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and of the American society of Mechanical Engineers. Surviving are his wife, Lillian, a son, Charles of Milwaukee, and three stepsons, Arthur Stevens, of Ann Arbor, Robert Stevens of Stow,O., and Donald Stevens of Munising; a daughter Dr. Susan K. Kennedy of Ann Arbor, and a stepdaughter Sharon Lovins of Munising; and six grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic church with Rev. Bernard Haas officiating. Burial will be in University of Michigan Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Bailey-Newhouse Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Robert Kerr, was born in Ireland 1838, and passed away at his home in Pickford at 6:30 o'clock Tuesday morning. Death was caused by Bright's Disease The deceased emigrated to Ontario when he was but twelve years old where he lived until about 30 years ago when he removed to this community. He was married 41 years ago and to this union were born eight children, one of whom George, preceeded the father a year ago. Besides the widow, seven children are left mourn the lost loved one, Wiliam and Hugh Kerr, Mrs. J.A. Daley, Mrs. George Carr, Mrs. Harry Clegg and Miss Stella, all of Pickford and Mrs. Thomas McCondra of the Soo. The funeral services were held from the home yesterday afternoon and very largely attended thus showing the respect in which Mr. Kerr was held by the people of this community. The services were un charge of the local Orange lodge which the deceased was one of the pioneer men to organize being an Orangeman all his life. The Rev. Maltas preached the funeral sermon and interment was in Bethel Cemetery.

Mrs. Ethan W. Kibby, 61, died at the family home 671 Eleventh avenus west on Sunday evening after a prolong illiness.
She was born in Sault St. Marie, Mich, Aug 29, 1866 and had been a resident of Eugene, OR the past 15 years.
Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Albert M. King of Portland, and Mrs. W. Leroy Coate of Eugene and son Arthur E Kibby, Detroit Mich. Funeral arrangements will be announced later from the Veatch chapel.

RUBY J. KING
Mrs. John (Ruby J.) King of 1602 Ryan St. was dead on arrival at War Memorial Hospital at 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Mrs. King had been ill for about a year.
A lifetime resident of Sault Ste. Marie, she was born here on Jan. 25, 1920. she was married on Aug. 21, 1939, to John King, who survives. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived y two sons, John of Hubbell
and Robert of Jackson; and three daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Diane) Schnurer
and Mrs. William (Barbara) Schnurer and Mrs. William (Barbara) Askwith,
both of Sault Ste. Marie, and Madeline King of Springfield, ILL., and nine
grandchildren.
Also surviving are her father, Charles Guest, a brother, Eugene Brasser
of Brimley and two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Lucille) Schmitt of Port Angeles,
Wash., and Mrs. Rolland (Doris) Kendall of Boise, Idaho.
Calling hours at the Bailey-Newhouse Funeral Home will be from 2 to
5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, with prayers at 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's
Church, with the Rt. Rev. Oliver O'Callaghan officiatioin. Burial
will be in Riverside cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Schnurer, David Reed, Larry Oberle, Gerald Glazier, William Askwith and Jay Tadgerson.

Thomas Krull, 9 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Krull, 1046 Cedar Street died at home Sunday, April 11, 1937 at 9:15 a.m. following a three day illness of pneumonia. Surviving are his parents, five sisters and three brothers. He was born at the Sault, July 4, 1936. Funeral services were held at the home at two o'clock this afternoon and burial was in Pine Grove cemetery.

Mabel E. LaCoy of 1601 Marquette Ave, died at 9:22 a.m. Feb 5, after
a long illness. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. Dec.25, 1897, she
had resided in the Michigan Sault area nearly all her life. She is survived
by her husband, Joseph A. LaCoy: two son's Eugene Brassar of Brimley
and Leo Johndrow of Chicago: one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Marie) Montgomery
of Detroit: two step-sons, Ronald LaCoy of Washington and Kenneth LaCoy

Mrs. Victoria LaLonde died at her home, 224 Arlington Street, yesterday morning at the age of 75 years. Mrs. LaLonde had been a resident of this city for many years and is survived by a daughter in Chicago and another daughter in Sandstone, Minn. The funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock and Interment will be made in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Delphine Lambert passed away Saturday night at the home of her son Francis Payment - 807 Spruce Street, and was buried from St. Mary’s Catholic church this morning at 8 o’clock. Mrs. Lambert has lived in the Soo for nearly 80 years and is well known and highly esteemed by many old citizens here. Although 88 years old, Mrs. Lambert had seldom been ill and had always been very active up to the time of her death. She was taken ill last Thursday suffering with paralysis. After the funeral services in the church the body was taken to Riverside Cemetery where interment was made.

Mrs. Alice Laramie, 58, died at her home at 1064 Maple street Friday night, March 30, 1928. Her death resulted from neurosis with which she had been afflicted for three weeks.
Mrs. Laramie is survived by two sons and two daughters: Francis and Raymond of the Sault; Mrs. Manville Mott, Grand Rapids and Mrs. Samuel Marvel, River Rouge. She also leaves her mother, Mrs. Catherine Hinds of the Sault and two brothers, John Hinds of the Sault and Joseph Hinds of Hay Lake.
Mrs. Laramie was the widow of David Laramie who died four years ago. She was born in Barrie, Ontario, November 18, 1970 and came here with her parents when she was a small girl. She attended school and married here and she lived in the east end of the city most of her life. She was loved by all her neighbors and her charities.
Mrs. Laramie was a member of St. Mary's church and was active in it's affairs. She was a promoter of the League of the Sacred Heart and a member of the Altar Society.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church at 8:30 a. m. Monday.

David Laramie, 56 years old, of 1054 Maple street, died this afternoon, March 8, 1924 at 1:30 o'clock at the family home, after an illness of four years suffering from pernicious anemia.
Mr. Laramie was born in Sault Ste. Marie, and for a number of years had been an employee at St. Marys Falls Canal. He was a member of St. Marys church, the Holy Name society, St. John de Baptiste and the Woodmen of the World.
Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Samuel Marble of River Rouge, Mich., Mary of this city and two sons, Francis of River Rouge, and Raymond of this City, four grandchildren and one brother, John Laramie, of this city.
The funeral arrangements were not announced this afternoon.

Francis David Laramie, 58, of 501 e. 4th ave., died at 8:45 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 1956, at the War Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Laramie had been employed at the Electromet for the past 32 years.
He was born in Sault Ste. Marie on March 2, 1897.
Surviving are his wife, Leona; one son, Glenn, of Midland, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Delores) Smith of Midland; three grandchildren; one brother, Raymond of the Sault; and two sisters, Mrs. Manvil (Mary) Mott of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Samuel (Kathleen) Marble of the Sault.
He was a member of St. Joseph's church.
The body will rest at the Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home beginning at 7 o'clock this evening. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a. m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church. The Rev. Oliver O'Callaghan will officiate and the body will be place in the Municipal vault unt May, when burial will be in the family lot in Riverside cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Onnie Hakola, Mike Fabricino, Joseph Quigley, Richard Campbell, Joseph Poglese and George Tardiff.

Michael Laramie, age 86, 1054 Maple street, died this morning at nine thirty, as the result of a long spell of asthma combined with old age. Mrs. Laramie came to the Sault 76 years ago from Mustaw, Canada, where he was born in 1836.
The deceased is survived by one brother, Albert, and two sons David and John, all of whom reside in the Sault. His wife died 19 years ago. He was not a member of any fraternal organization and attended the St. Mary's church. No funeral arrangements have been made.

Raymond J. Laramie of Brimley died Sunday at War Memorial hospital.
He was born June 24, 1907 in Sault, Mich. And was a retired union Carbide worker and a veteran of World War II. He lived with his niece, Mrs. Tom Malloy, on Lakeshore Drive, Brimley.
Surviving him are several Nieces and Nephews.
Calling hours are today, 7-9 p. m. with prayers at 8 p. m. at the Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home, Sault, Mich.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 9 a. m. at St. Isaac Joques Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Lawless officiating.

Cheboygan - Adelaide A. Leask, 92 died early Sunday morning March 14, 1993 at Community Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Cheboygan Health Care Center since 1987. Mrs. Leask was born the daughter of Angus and Mary Jane(LaVigne) McCoy, May 19, 1900 on Sugar Island, located in the St. Mary's River near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan' She married Thomas Leask November 25, 1920 at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Mr Leask preceded her in death in April of 1969. She is survived by children Leora Sunderland of Cheboygan; Wanda Foley of Coldwater; Joan and Bud Stevens of Flint, Orville and Lorraine Leask of Cheboygan, Dorothy and Bud Spray of Cheboygan; Angud and Betty Leask of Garylord; John and Pat Leask of Alpena; Lawrence and Monica Vallance of Davison, Gerry and Tim Bussler of Cheboygan and Judy and Fred Maxwell of Cheboygan. A sister Ruth McKerchie of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan also survives. A sister Grace Doyle preceded her in death in 1965. She was a long-time member of St. Mary's Church and the Cheboygan Catholic Community. The family will receive callers at the Nordman Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. at St. Mary's - St. Charles Catholic Church. Fr. Jim Hayden will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family has asked that persons wishing to give memorials do so by giving the Cheboygan Health Care Center. Envelopes are available at the Nordman Funeral Home.

Joseph Henry Leask, 77, retired tug captain and life-long resident of Sugar Island, died Friday, March 8, 1940, at his home in Brassar. He had been ill for the past five years. Born June 3, 1862 at Brassar, Mr. Leask followed the lakes all his life, and at one time was captain on a tug for the Derocher company at Detour. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Russell Payment of the Sault, and Mrs. Marion Sylvester and Mrs. Thomas furnier of Brassar; six grandchildren and two great-grand children. He was a member of the Catholic church at Payment. Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. at the Payment, Catholic church. Burial will be in Payment cemetery.

Mrs. Lula Leask, 36, of Sugar Island, who has been in the Sault for
the past year for medical treatment, died at 555 Carrie street, Friday
evening, April 10, 1931, at seven o'clock, after an illness of two years
with a complication of diseases.
Mrs. Leask was born on Sugar Island, and all of her family live there.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred, six children, six sisters and two
brothers, all of Sugar Island.
She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at the Payment Catholic
Church with burial at the Payment cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Leona Leask, of Sugar Island, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Donald McFarlane, at 1304 Kimball St., at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1955. She had been ill two and one-half years. She is survived by 214 direct descendants. Born in Grand Island, Mich. on Aug 8, 1870, Mrs. Leask was lifelong resident of this area. She was married on April 10, 1887, to Paul Leask. Her husband preceded her in death. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Baie de Wasal. Survivors include: four sons, Thomas of Cheboygan, Ambrose of Flint, Archie of Detroit, and Paul of Frankfort; three daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Adelaide) Thibodeau of Detroit, Mrs. Donald (Harriet) McFarlane of Sault Ste. Marie, and Leona of Sugar Island. Also surviving is a brother, Louis Myotte of Sault; 68 grandchildren, 138 great-grandchildren, and a son, Joseph, died weeks ago. He was born on Sugar Island, June 13, 1861, and had resided there throughout his life. He would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary next year. Surviving are his wife, Mary; five daughters, Mrs. Agnes Sylvester, Pickford, Mrs. Catherine Carpenter, Cheboygan, Mrs. Adelide Thobocleau, Detroit, Mrs. Harriet McFarland of the Sault, and Leona of Baie de Wasai; five sons, Archie and Joseph of Sugar Island, Thomas of Cheboygan, Paul of Frankfort, and Ambrose of Duluth; one brother, Joseph Leask of Sugar Island; and 53 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Catholic Church. The body was to be removed from the Beaumier Funeral Home to the home this afternoon. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Services will be held at St. Mary's Church Friday at 9 a.m.followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WILLIAM LEASK
William Leask of Garden River, was rowing up to the Soo Thursday afternoon and as the Northern Light was passing up, he threw a tow line to one of the crew, but before the line was properly adjusted the boat capsized and he was drowned. His body was recovered the following day, and funeral took place on Sunday.

J.L. LIPSETT PASSES AWAY AT HOME HERE
Pioneer Business Man Succumbs to Illness of Long Standing
WAS RESIDENT 63 YEARS
An illness with infirmilities of old age from which he had suffered for several months proved fatal this afternoon, July 11, 1938, at 12:40 o'clock, to J.L. Lipsett, pioneer resident and business man of this city. Mr. Lipsett was 84 years of age. Death came to him at the Lipsett residence, 315 East Spruce street.
James L. Lipsett, son of Francis and Sarah Lipsett, was born August 25, 1854, in Gray county Ontario. He lived on the homestead farm of his parents until he was 18 years of age when he moved to Annon, Ontario, where he served three years apprenticeship to become a blacksmith. He came to Sault Ste. Marie in September, 1875, and started a smithy; a trade which he followed for ten years. His business expanded with the town and from 1880 until 1887, Mr. Lipsett operated a livery and stage business. For two years his stage carried the mail from St. Ignace to the Sault. During this time he held a contract to fill the grade of twelve miles of the Duluth/South Shore and Atlantic railway.
Mr. Lipsett stared one of the first farm machinery and implement businesses in the Sault which was the start of the present Lipsett companies in Chippewa county. For a time he was in the construction business as a member of the firm of Lipsett and Gregg, and at that time (the late 1880's) built the Ferguson block and five brick buildings at Fort Brady.
Mr. Lipsett, former mayor of Sault Ste. Marie and thirty-three years president of the Central Savings Bank, had been confined to his bed since May 25. His illness had been years long, however, following a paralytic stroke some eight years ago.
He married twice and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Lipsett to whom he had been married almost 55 years. Funeral arrangments this afternoon still were indefinite, but the funeral will be held at the home at 315 E. Spruce Street, probably Thursday afternoon.
He is survived by: His wife, Mrs. J.L. Lipsett. Four children, Verne Lipsett; Mrs. Clarence Alphord of Flint; Mrs. Miriam L. Irvin of the Sault; and James L. Lipsett, Jr. of the Sault. Three sisters--Mrs. Rebecca Watson, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. J.A. Douglas, Miami, and Mrs. Sara Agnew, Detroit. Eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Due to illness, he was an inactive member of the Knights and Pythias, Masonic Lodge and Rotarians.

Doris Irene Lounds, 98, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away Monday morning, May 6, 2002 at Tendercare Nursing Home.
Mrs. Lounds was born on November 6, 1903 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, as well as the {presbyterian Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening.
Survived by her son, George Lounds of Sault Ste. Marie; three granddaughters, Irene Daw, Sally Gregg, and Billie Jean Gregg; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Peter McKenzie of Muskegon; and two sisters, Lucy Quinlan of Clinton Twp., Mich. And Christina McInnis of Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Lounds; her parents, Peter and Lydia (Murray) McKenzie; a daughter, Edna Pearl Augustson; a great-granddauther, Tracy Ballew; two brothers, Robert and Lester McKenzie; and four sisters, Pearl Elliot, Vima McArthur, Trella Wright and Violet Bell McKenzie.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 at Hovie Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
