The carnival at the Crystal
rink last Saturday night, for the benefit of the band of this place, was
a grand success. The boys raised $41. The following is a list of the
prizes awarded: Miss Minnie Scanlon, butterfly, first prize; Miss Annie
Markle, comic costume, second prize; Thomas Hazel, Rotman soldier, gentlemen's
first prize; George Merkley, comic dress, second prize.
The last we heard of Jimmy
Meshane was that he had donned a pair of snowshoes and started to look
for a homestead, but they had got Jimmy up side down and he was heard to
exclaim: "My country, my bow and my pig."
The Rev. Westlake, of the
Soo, visited this place on the 13th inst. and preached a very interesting
sermon in the church of the Epiphany in the evening.
Charles Jacobs desire to
thank the people of this place, in behalf of the Bay Mills band, for their
large attendance at the band carnival.
Miss Annie Markle and Miss
Labert, of the Soo, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan last week.
Mrs. Ems, who has been visiting
relatives in Hamilton, Ont., has returned to Bay Mills.
The choir social at the
residence of Thomas Bailey, was a success.
Emerson Hollingshead was
on the sick list last week.
Mrs. James Scanlon is in
very poor health.
