This INDENTURE made
the sixth day of Aprill 1683 and in the thirty fifth yeare of the raigne
of or: Sovereigne Lord Charles the second &c. Between WM. FAUNTLEROY
of the Parish of Farnham and County of Rappa: Gent. and KATHERINE his Wife
of one part and WILLIAM SMITH of ye same Parish & County, Carpenter,
of the other pt. Witnesseth that the sd WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY & KATH:
his Wife for and in consideration of Four thousand 497 pounds of Merchantable
Tob: in cask to them paid or secured to be paid sell unto the said WILLIAM
SMITH his heires and assignes forever Two hundred and Eight acres of land
being in Rappa: County and on the head of FARNHAM CREEK in the Pish. aforesaid
being part of a Pattent for Eleven hundred fifty & five acres formerly
granted unto CoIl: SAMLL. GRIFFIN and by him lapsed and afterwards repatented
by AMBROS CLEAR and by him given to KATH: now Wife of the herein mentioned
WM: FAUNTLEROY and pty. to these prsents and to her heires forever being
bounded as followeth: Begining at an hickory corner tree of DAVID FOWLERs
standing on the West side of ye BRIARY SWAMP and runing along the said
FOWLERs line N. Wt. to a red Oake standing by the ROAD side, thence N.
to a Gum corner tree, thence E. to the head of the sd BRIARY SWAMP, thence
down West side of the said Swamp its severall courses to the place it first
began as it was laid out and survayed by EDWIN CONWAY, Surver: of the County
aforesd., on the 13th Febry. 1682 togeather with the Plantation thereon
seated with true copies of all wrightings survaighs or evidences concerning
the same as also all pfitts. to the said Two hundred and Eight acres of
land belonging To have and to hold to the sd WILLIAM SMITH his heires forever
subject nevertheless to ye qt: rents wch. shall grow due and the said WILLIAM
FAUNTLEROY and KATHARINE his Wife will warrant and defend unto ye sd WM.
SMITH his heires forever & will make further Deeds for the further
sure making at any time vithin ye space of seaven yeares neit ensuing the
date hereof In Witness the parties have sett their
hands and seals

are to impower you in my name and for my proper use to receive from Mr.
WM. FAUNTLEROY and KATHERINE his Wife one Deed of Feofmt. made by ye sd
WM. & KATHERINE for conveyance of Two hundred and Eight acres and bearing
date the 5th day of Aprill 1683 be carefull to see it done to porpose and
this shall be yor: sufficient warrant as Witness my hand & seale this
third July 1683

prsents that I KATHERINE FAUNTLEROY appoint my loveing freind, Mr. JOHN
RICE, to be my true and lawfull Attorney to acknovledg unto WM. SMITH,

Two hundred and eight acres as Witness my hand and Scale this 2d day of
May 1683
