Lane, Williams, Wager, Henderson, Ray, Webb, Clark, Martin, Drake, Webb, Johnson, Bell & many others grandma said the left before daylight. The "pretty-by-nights" were open, but it was too early for whip-orwills or
dew. The(y) traveled in 2 wheel carts drawn by heavy draft horses to transport their household goods. The rest of the caravan rode horseback. Grandma was, (space left blank,
presumably for filling inlater, but never was), then. The first night after they pitched camp & ate she remebered looking up and seeing the neww moon with the old man moon cradled in her arms. The roads were
poor & the spring streams swollen & it was raining. They cross the O river and turned E. of the Mississippi river into Ill. Then they went N to St Louis Mo, turned SW & on into Madison Co. Ark. They arrived
too late for field crops, but did clear some patches of land & planted early maturing vegetables. |
