GOAD References

The references cited on the individual pages will generally be the sources closest to the primary sources that I have available at the time I put the pages together. If I get other information closer to the primary source, I will generally replace the reference.

My general preferences in referencing are, in order:

  • Original primary document that I have seen
  • Published transcript of original document that I have seen
  • Unpublished document transcript that I have seen - one that someone hand copied from the original or from a published transcript.
  • Published abstracts that I have seen of documents.
  • Unpublished abstract that I have seen of a document - one that someone has hand copied
  • Published genealogy books or documents-
  • Information published/posted on the internet, I will try to have a link to the internet site and also have a reference on this page with additional information in case the link is lost
  • Information I have received from other researchers, either by private communication or through the Goad Family Discussion Grop e-mail list.
  • Other misc information found such as unpublished notes or pedigrees found in a library archive or on a CD-ROM such as World Family Tree. For sources referencing other sources the following applies
  • Sources references other sources will be in annotated in the manner of " 1: 2" where 1 is the source doing the referencing and 2 is the source being referenced.
  • References to these documents will not include references in the documents to individual researchers.
