Notes
There are at least 2 Richard Good(e)s and possibly a Richard Gourde
in the early days of Virginia who potentially could have been Abraham's
father.
In 1651, the passage for one Richard Good was paid for by Joseph Hayes
of York County. The second Richard Goode had his passage paid for by Mrs.
Margaret Brent of Lancaster County in 1655. Lancaster County borders the
part of the old Rappahannock County that is now Richmond County, Virginia.
One of these may have been Richard Goode of Essex County, Virginia.
Essex County is the southern half of the old Rappahannock county, while
Richmond is the northern half. Rappahannock was separated into those two
counties with the Rappahannoch River being the county line, which eliminated
the need to cross the river to get to the county government offices, though
the main means of traffic in the Tidewater area in those days was by water.
This page documents the information about Richard Goode of Essex
County and proves that he probably is not the father of Abraham Goode.
In the Richard Goode documents of old Rappahannock and the later Essex
County, at least two other family names appear with regularity, Parker
and Moseley. These family names also appear in Richard Goode's will. In
that will, Richard provides the names of his children. Abraham is not
listed.
